MRS. HORACE c'. SMITH,
Correspondent and Representative
Cary Smith of near Ware Shoals,
was a recent visitor of his cousin,
Kenneth Trammell. Mrs. J. H. Seay
of West Clinton, is visiting her
daughter. Mrs. Clyde Trammell,
and Mr. Trammell. She attended
the homecoming services at the
Baptist church Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Todd visited
in Columbia Sunday where they
welcomed their ^iew grandson,
Kobert Joseph, who arrived on
Tuesday of la$t week. The proud
parents are Mr. and Mrs. Spurgeon
Todd. Mrs. Todd before marriage
was Miss Jane Carper of Lydia.
Mrs. J. W. Butler returned home
Tuesday after visiting for several
days in Westminster with her
daughter, Mrs. Howard Roach.
Mrs. Lois Webb, who spent sev
eral days there, has returned
home.
Mrs Ervin Campbell of near
Pelzcr. Mr. and Mrs. R. Ramsey of
Greenville, recently visited Mr.
and Mrs. Henry Abercrombie.

Refreshments of ice cream, cake
and cold drinks were served by
the hostess. Kenneth received
many gifts from the guests which
were opened and passed.
Celebrate Birthdays
Mrs. Robert Stone and Mrs.
Ralph Harbin were joint hostesses
on Friday for a birthday party for
their daughter and son, Rebecca
Stone and Johnny Harbin.

nual girls’ play-day. sponsored by
the South Carolina Recreation So
ciety, Saturday, Sept. 27.
Registration was held at the
Community center and two hun
dred and nine girls, representing
nine recreation departments in the
state society were present. Assign
ment was by color teams and the
first session of play-day began at
11:00 o’clock.
Events entered were: dodge ball,
volley ball, standing broad jump,
basketball throwing, relays, folk
dancing, and group singing. Com
petition was by color team and not
by cities. Colorful ribbons were
given as souvenirs. At noon time
a picnic lunch was served in the
gymnasium, drinks being furnish
ed by the host. Thirty-six leaders
from over the state were guests of
the Winnsboro Mills at lunch. Mrs.
lone Wallace and George Fleming
represented Lydia Mills and Chas.
Leatherwood of the Clinton Mills,
were among the leaders.

Woman's Club Eniarlaint Taachars
The Woman’s club entertained
the teachers of Providence school
at a party Tuesday night in the
lunch room. The mother of each
child attending school was invited
and open house was held with each
teacher as hostess in her class
room.
The lunch room was decorated
with arrangements of fall flowers
in hues of delicate pink shading
into deep red. Mrs. Cecil McLen
don and Mrs. Clyde Trammell in
vited the guests in and Miss Mary
Johnson, president of the club, pre
sided in the party room. Mrs. Wal
lace* and George Fleming directed
the program of fun, using as a
theme, “Favorites.” A unique form
of radio program was made with
announcements of some pet idea or
peeve concerning each teacher.
Mrs. David Word and her re
freshment committee served dainty
sandwiches, cake squares and
piinch to the sixty-eight guests
present.
Bake Sale By Methodist Women
The ladies of Lydia Methodist
church held a bake sale in the
lunch room of Providence school
Friday night. A program ot music
was given by Mrs. Billy Word,
Mrs. Wallace and Benny Huey.
Grimp singing was enjoyed, fol
lowed by several cake walks.
