Harold L. Austin, son of Mr. and
Mrs. Leslie Austin, now stationed
in Korea, has been promoted to
first sergeant. He is also a nephew
of Mrs. Polly Lawson.
Mrs. J. L. Bray of Greenville,
recently spent the week with her
daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and
Mrs. Ralph Harbin.
Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Todd had as
their guests recently Mr. and Mrs.
Dan Blue and children of Green
ville, and Otto Cox of Indian Trail,
N. C. On Sunday Jerome Bailey
and son of Greenville <visited them.
. Mr. and Mrs. Leroy Israel of
Anderson, visited Mrs. J. W. Full
er recently.
Sidney Thomourg, now stationed
in Kentucky, spent the week-end
with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. F.
L. Thornburg.
H. S. Watson of Columbia, Miss.,
is spending a few days with his
daughter, Mrs. E. W. Mitchell and
family.

Hobby Club To Give Show
The Hobby club will end its
year’s work with a Hobby show
Friday and Saturday of this week
in the Community center. The
show is open to the public and will
be run from one o’clock to ten Fri
day, and until 5 o’clock Saturday.
On display will be finished crafts
of each member. Prizes will be
awarded in the classes of Copper
Tooling, Etching of Crystal, Etch
ing of Aluminum, Nylon Flowers,
Textile Painting, Costume Jewel
ry Hooked Rugs, Wooden Ware
and Swedish Embroidery.
Hostesses will be Mrs. Roy
Thomas. Mrs. J. B. Templeton, Mrs.

R v R. Wyatt is very ill at his
home on Oak street.
Mrs. Major Crawford has re
turned home from the Blalock clin
ic and is recuperating at her home.
Mrs. Joe Carley has returned
home after being a patient at the
Self Memorial hospital in Green
wood, and is improving.
Friends of Paul McCauley will
regret to learn he is a patient at
the Baptist hospital in Columbia.
Young Group Entertains
The Aowakiyas, a group of Camo
Fire Girls, were hostesses to a
group of friends Friday night in
the Community center. A social
prom was enjoyed and later danc
ing. Refreshments were served by
Mrs Wallace, Mrs. Lois Webb, Mrs.
Trannie Boozer, George Fleming
and Ray Boozer.
Club Hat Social Meeting
The Woman’s club met in the
lunch room of Providence school
Thursday night for their regular
meeting. Miss Mary Johnson,
president, presided. After wel
coming the guests she turned the
social program over to Mrs. Charles
Gaffney, a member of the program
committee. Mrs. Gaffney led in a
number of games and Mrs. Wal
lace presented the stunt of the eve
ning in the form of a skit with the
following taking part: Mrs. Gaff
ney, Mrs. George Fleming, Russell
Trammell and George Fleming.
Forty-two guests were present and
refreshments of cookies and punch
were ser/ed by Mrs. David Worn
and Mrs. Floyd Poole.
Mrs. Leroy Honored
On Friday evening Mrs. Pauline
Lawson, Mrs. Frances Lawson and
Mrs. Henry Lawson honored Mrs.
Dorothy Burnett Leroy with ” a
shower at the Lawson home on
Pine street.
Games were played, led by Mrs.
Melvin Satterfield, with Mrs. Dol
ly McCravy and Mrs. J. A. Black,
Jr., winning prizes at the end of
the games.
Mixed summer flowers of differ
ent colors were arranged through
out the receiving rooms.
After the games refreshments
were served consisting of sand
wiches, potato chips, cookies and
soft drinks.
Mrs. Leroy received many gifts
which were opened and passed.
Nabors Reunion At
Hurricane Sunday
The Nabors will have a reunion
Sunday, August 31. at Hurricane
Baptist church near Clinton. All
friends and neighbors^ are invited
to come and bring a picniq lunch
and tea. Dinner will be served at
1:00 o'clock. This will be the first
reunion of this well known and
widely connected family.
