< Pape Two THE CLINTON CHRONICLE Education Gets 36 Cents Per Dollar In t 1951 Expenditures Columbia, Aug. 1.—Around $56,- 064.000 or 36 cents out of every dollar expended by South Carolina during the fiscal year, went for ed ucation, according to a study by the U. S. Department of Com merce. Total expenditures by the state were $159.479,000, of which $36,- 997,000 went for highways, around 24 cents out of every dollar. Other expenditures included: public welfare $18,575,000; health a ,d hospitals $8,324,000; natural re sources $8,324,000; public safety $3,- 096.000; public payroll $3,069,000: employment security $1,857,000. The great source of revenue was motor vehicles with operation of sources included: alcoholic bever ages' taxes and licenses $16,156,000; << rporation income tax and licen- m\s $14,091,000; individual income) tax $12,016,000; tobacco tax $8,097, 000.
