Miss Dorothy L. South of Lau
rens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Le-
Roy South of near Whitmire, and
Mrs. Acie Lee Johnson, son of Mrs.
Andrew J. Johnson and the late
Mr. Johnson, were united in mar-
rigae on Saturday, June 28. The
couple are now making their home
here on Musgrove street.

Bridge P#My
Given Thursday
Tuesday afternoon Mrs. Robert
M. Vanpe entertained guests for
three tables of bridge for Miss Toc-
coa Wise, who is at home for the
summer from Ohio State Univer-,
sity, Columbus.
The tables were prettily appoint
ed for refreshments and a sweet
course was enjoyed prior to the
games. When scores were counted
Mrs. Frank Ramage was found to
be high score winner. Guests in
cluded Mrs. Claude Crocker of
Slater, and Mrs. Paul Martin of
Columbia, who were visiting here.
Methodist Circles,
Society Will Meet
The circles and Woman’s Socity
of Christian Service of Broad
Street Methodist church will have
a joint meeting on Monday, Jtdy
14, at 4 o’clock at the church.
The Louise Best circle will meet
Wednesday, July 16, at the State
Training School.
The Sara Glenn circle, Mrs. Bill
Abrams, chairman, meets at 8:00
Monday evening at the home of
Mrs. Roscoe Buzhardt, with Mrs. J.
K. Haselden as co-hostess.
Dance At Club
For Younger Set
Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth N. Baker,
Mr. and Mrs. John Addison en
tertained a group of young people
on Tuesday evening at Lakeside
Country club with a square dance
for their daughters, Misses Ann
Baker and Elaine Addison.
Miss Bernice Stroupe directed
the dancing and also assisting in
the courtesies of entertaining were
Mrs. R. P. Hamer, Mr. and Mrs.
James Addison. Punch and assort
ed wafers were served during the
evening to about thirty young peo
ple invited for the occasion.
Tuesday Bridge
Club Entertained
Members of the Tuesday bridge
club were entertained last week at
the home of Mrs. A. G. Suther
land, Jr.
Roses and colorful gladioli made
a pretty setting in the living room
where two tables were arranged
for refreshments. Prior to the
games a sweet course was served.
Later during the games cold drinks
and knick-knacks were enjoyed.
Score awards were presented Mrs.
J. B. Arnold, a club guest, and
Mitt Edward Campbell. Mrs. B. C.
Preslar, also a visitor, kept floating
prize.

nesday afternoon at the home of
the former.
Several amusing contests and
games following the wedding
theme, were enjoyed by the
twenty-five friends invited for the
occasion. Later the honoree was
presented a shower of gifts, the
hostesses remembering her with
china in her chosen pattern.
Mrs. Hugh Bonds Workman and
Mrs. J. B. Speake, the hostesses’
mothers, assisted in the courtesies
of entertaining and serving a sal
ad course and punch.

Lutheran Society
The July meeting of St. John’s
Lutheran church Woman’s Society
of Christian Service was held on
Monday evening at the home of
Mrs. T. M. Sease.
Mrs. Rhett P. Adair, assisted by
several other members, presented
the program on “Pacific Rim.” Fol
lowing the business session a social
hour was enjoyed and the hostess
served a refreshment course.

spent last week at Myrtle Beach.
Captain and Mrs. Walter G. Cok
er and son. Rusty, formerly of Fort
Knox, Ky., who have been spend
ing several weeks with the for
mer’s father, Walter G. Coker, will
leave Friday floV Winston-Salem,
N. C. Mrs. Coker and son will
reside there while Captain Coker
is serving with the medical corps
in the Far East. He leaves Satur
day for San Francisco, Calif., and
will be assigned in Yokahama.

Watts Davis, and family. Mr. and

Friends of Lt. Arnold Young
will regret to learn he was wound
ed the latter part of June in ac
tion in Korea. He’ was hospitalized
but has written Mrs. Young, the
former Miss Carolyn Young, who is
residing in Columbia, that he is im
proving satisfactorily.
