Holt and family were entertained at dinner in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Bolt Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. J. L. Mahaffey and children spent the- week-end with Mr. and IVIrs. A. T. Crawford. Mrs. Daisy Corley of Greenwood, is visiting her son, Joe Corley, and family. Cpl. Roy Lee White is home from Korea on leave due to the illness of his father. Mrs. Agnes Garner, sister of Jesse Duckett, died recently in Jonesville. Mrs.'*. Ella Adair and daughter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar |tdbt of Chillum, Md,, attended the funeral of Mrs. Agnes Garner in Giliad cemetery at Jonesville recently. Nancy Ann Smith is spending several weeks with Brenda Barbee near Clinton. Diane Whitley is spending a few weeks with Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Nash. Mrs. B. E. Eskew of Columbia, is J. C. Woodrow Worthy of the Marines, visited Mrs. Worthy and baby, Alice, in Lexington, his mother, Mrs. Alice Worthy and sis ter, Mrs. Louise Timmons at Cross Columbia, Mo. — J. C. Penney, chain store founded and native Missourian, has given the Univer sity of Missouri the world-famous Foremost Guernsey dairy herd and other assets with a total value es timated at three-fourth of a mil lion dollars. President Frederick A. Middle- bush announced today that Mr. Penney’s gift includes all of the property, endowments, and assets of the Foremost Guernsey as sociation corporation of New York, which was recently dissolved by the New York courts, at Mr. Pen ney’s request, to permit transfer of title to the university. The as sociation’s assets include the farm land, buildings and equipment at Hopewell Junction, New York — where the famous herd was found ed more than 30 years ago—as well as cash, stocks and bonds. The Foremost herd of some 250 cattle, one of the country’s finest purebred herds and valited conser vatively at $200,000, will be brought to Missouri and, in accord ance with Mr. Penney’s wishes, perpetuated by the University's College of Agriculture. both male and female, and have made it possible to select even fin er sires during the past 20 years from within the herd. Some of the famous sires which will be moved to Missouri are: Foremost Footprint A. R. (advanc- j ed registry), Foremost Acme A. R.. Foremost J. C., and Foremost Quantity’s Footprint. These sires! combine the greatest bloodlines of the breed. Mr. Penney’s career is one of the great success stories in American business. The former Missouri! farm boy who once clerked in a 1 store for $2.27 a month, later founded in 1902 the chain of retail dry goods stores bearing his name and how totaling 1,624 outlets. Al-j ways devoted to agriculture, he owns seven farms in Missouri.
