Meeting For June
The West circle met ^Tuesday
evening at the Training School.
The program on Alaska was pre
sided over by Mrs. Zeno Crad
dock. After a devotional by Mrs.
S. S. Barnett, each member pres
ent took part in the discussion.
Mrs. Leonia Westbury, leader, con
ducted a short business session and
reports w'ere given by Mrs. Max-
field and Mrs. S. B. Loftis. Plans
were made for conducting com
munity mission trips and gifts.
Mrs. Loftis dismissed the group
with prayer.
Mrs. W. E. Caudell
Observes Birthday
Mrs. W. E. Caudell of Kinards,
celebrated her 50th birthday.May
28 at her home near Joanna, with
a number of friends and relatives
present.
Mrs. Caudell was bom and rear
ed in Bullock county, Ga., moving
to her present home in 1932. They
have one daughter, Miss Johnnie
Mae Caudell of the home place.

Takes Part In Meet
The State Grand Chapter, Or
der of Eastern Star, will meet in
Greenville June IT, 18 and 19; The
James B. Parrott chapter of this
city will give a drill for the Most
Worthy Right Grand Matron of
Virginia,- of General Grand Chap
ter. Fifteen members under the
direction of Mrs. Eva Land, past
grand matron, will participate.
Mrs. Pope Chapman will take part
in a flag drill, carrying the Chris
tian Flag. This is under the direc
tion of Mrs. Blanche Starnes of
Rock Hill, past grand matron.
Those taking part will wear white

The June meeting of the Steph
en D. Lee Chapter, United Daugh
ters of the Confederacy, was held
on Thursday evening at the home
of Mrs. George H. Ellis, with Mrs.
F. C. Pinson, Miss Lily Yarborough
and Mrs. J. Wiljl Dillard assisting
as hostesses.
Mrs. Asa Davis, who was :n
charge of the program, gave an in
teresting sketch on Mrs. John
Brown Gordon, wife of General
Gordon of Georgia, a heroine of
the Cohfetferacy, and one of the
founders of the UDC.
During a social hour guests were
invited into the dining room where
sandwiches, punch and cakes were
served buffet from the dining table
overlaid with a hand-made cloth
pnd centered with a bouquet of
Queen Anne’s lace. Elsewhere m
the home flowers of the season
were prettily arranged. Double
larkspur and gysophilia adorned
the mantel and gardenias the cof
fee table.
