Mrs. Finney, Jr., Is Bridge Club Hostess Thursday afternoon Mrs. John W. Finney, Jr., was hostess to members of her bridge club assem bling players for two tables. White lilies with bowls of pastel tinted larkspur made a pretty background for cards'. When scores, were counted Mrs. B. B. Ballard was presented the club award. Lat er in the afternoon a salad course, punch and candy were served. Bridge Club Is Entertained Mrs. Ansel B. Godfrey entertain ed her bridge 'club on Thursday for a number of afternoon games. Two tables were arranged for cards in a pretty setting of roses and daisies. Score prizes for the progressions went" to Mrs. Kenneth Baker and Mrs. D. O. Rhame. After cards the hostess served a salad course with cookies. Pioneers Enjoy Swimming, Picnic The Pioneer group of the First Presbytefian church was given • a swimming party and picnic yester day afternoon by Mrs. W. L. Mar shall, Jr., and Mrs. P. S. Bailey. About 27 young people enjoyed swimming at Clinton Mills pool and later in the afternoon went to the home of Mrs. C. M. Bailey where a picnic supper was served on the lawn. Little Girl • Has Birthday Lois Mari% Haselden who was ft years old May 31, celebrated the oocaskm on last Wednesday af ternoon by inviting about twenty- five little folk for a theater party. Popcorn was served before the movie and later they returned to the home for refreshments of ice cream, and cookies. Centering the refre^ment table was the tall pink birthoay cake bearing eight lighted tapers. Colorful balloons used in decoration were given as favors. Assisting the honoree’s mother, Mrs. J. K. Haselden, were Mrs. Frank Anderson and Mrs. James E. Anderson. fones-Henderson Rites Announced Mr. and Mrs. T. M. Jones of El- lijay. Ga., announce the marriage of their daughter, Louella, to T. Wat Henderson. The wedding took place in Atlanta, Ga., on May 11 at 3 o’clock in Capitol View Baptist church with Rev. W. Lee Cotts per forming the ceremony. Fuller Reece of Elberton, Ga., was best man for his brother-ln- law’ and Mrs. T. K. Cobb was ma tron of honor. Mrs. Henderson is a sister of Mrs. Sterlin Young, formerly of this city, and made her home here for a number of years. -♦ Drop-In Party For June Bride-Elect On Friday afternoon Miss Cor nelia Harris entertained with a drop-in at her home honoring Miss Sara Culp, bride-elect of June. Magnolia, gladioli. Queen Anne’s lace and daisies were used effec tively in the receiving rooms. Miss Lillian Dillard grqpted the guests at the door and Miss Helen Knigh^invited them into the din ing room. The table was centered with a miniature bridal bouquet, sur rounded by pink candles. Mrs. S. G. Dillard poured cof fee, and cake squares, nuts and mints were served in buffet style. About twenty-five guests called during the afternoon. The host ess’ mother, Mrs. Wilson Harris, assisted in entertaining. * The honoree was presented a gift of silver in her pattern. 0 New Group Of Blue Birds Formed A new' group of Blue Birds, com posed of seven year old girls has been formed. Mrs. A. G. Suther land, Jr., met recently with the mothers at the home of Mrs. Tom Addison -to make plans and later the girls met to organize. They selected “Rose” as a name and elected the following officers: President—Murray Addison. Secretary—Jane Milam. Hostess—Ame Lou Black. Mrs. Frank Fowler is leader of the group and Mrs. Addison, as sistant. Mrs. Fowler holds a train ing certificate in Camp Fire work. Bridge Club Enjoys Meeting Members of her bridge club gathered on Thursday afternoon at the home of Mrs. Tom Addison. Two tables were in play with Mrs. Heath Copeland and Mrs. C. W. Stone, who played for an absent member. Following the games, a salad course was enjoyed Daisies, feverfew, and duoble larkspur in pastel tints were decor ative in the living room and recep tion hall while roses were com bined with other garden flowers on the sun porch. Teachers Present Pupils In Recital The pupils of Mrs. Harry Mc- Sween and Mrs. W. Y. Thompson were presented in a piano and voice recital last Tuesday evening in the Presbyterian church par lors.— Spring flowers were used effec tively in the rooms. Mrs. J. T. The Green Garden Club Organized On Friday afternoon Mrs. Tom Addison and Mrs. F. P. Thompson were co-hostesses at the home of the former to their garden club unit for an organizational meeting. The group organized with 18 members and selected “The Green Garden Club" for a name. The following officers were elected: President—Mrs. Tom Ficklin. Vice-Presiden and Program chairman—Mrs. Robert M. Vance. Sedretary-Treasurer — Mrs. J. P. Rowland. Project Chairman—Mrs. Ansel B. Godfrey. Constitution and Yearbook Com mittee Chairman—Mrs. George R. Blalock. Texans Visit Relatives At Kinards After spending a week in New berry and Laurens county with relatives, Mr. and Mrs. Raymond “Hank” Henderson and two young daughters, Suzanne and June, and Bill Fish, Mrs. Henderson’s broth er, have returned to their respec tive homes at Vernon and Paducah, Texas. Mr. Henderson is a son of Mr. and Mrs. R. L. Route 2, Kinards. ' On Sunday, May 25, on the spac ious lawn at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Dean, Route 2, Clinton, a bounteous midday meal was enjoyed picinic style on tables in‘the shade of the trees. Smith-Tucker Rites Solemnized Miss Doris Adeline Smith and William Lee Tucker of FinchviWe, Ky., were married on the afternoon of May 17th at St. John’s Lutheran church. The Rev. James C. Dick- ert, performed the double ring ceremony. Charles Rogers of Lexington, Ky., was the groom’s best man. Mrs. William Brooks Owens and Miss Ann Corley rendered a pro gram of wedding music. Miss Rachel Nichols of Mount- ville, was the maid of honor and the bride’s only attendant. She wore a white suit with navy ac cessories and her corsage was of red rosebuds. The bride, given in marriage by Dr. B. O. Whitten, wore a navy suit with white and navy access ories. She carried a white Bible centered with a white purple- throated orchid. Immediately following the cere mony the couple left for Finchville where they will make their home. Mrs. Tucker has been very ac tive in 4-H club work. In 1950 she was a delegate from South Caro lina to the National 4-H club Con gress in Chicago. It was there that she met Mr. Tucker, a delegate from Kentucky. Mr. Tucker graduated May 30 from the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Mrs. Blacks Pupils Presented In Recital Thursday evening Mrs. Robert F. Black presented her piano pupils in recital at the First Presbyterian church. Baskets of magnolia placed on either side of the stage which was banked with Admiral Byrd dais ies and other white flowers, made a pretty setting for the musical. Following the program refresh ments were served in the ladies parlor by Mrs. William Bailey Ow ens, Mrs. Pringle Copeland, Sr, Mrs. William Brooks Owens and Mrs. J. F. Jacobs. Adorning the punch table was an epe r gne filled with sweetpeas and flanked by old- fashioned nosegays.
