A DREAM COMES TRUE
A dream that -originated in a Prisoner of War Camp in Germany in World War II has become a reality for Joe McDaniel as he prepares to introduce to the public Clinton's most modern
and up-to-date Service Station. During long months of confinement, Joe spent .many hours in sketching and drawing plans for the type of Service Station he hoped some day he would have
the good fortune of putting into operation.
On April 26, 1944, while being thoroughly searched by a German guard before being transferred from the P. W. Camp in which he was staying to another camp near the city of Danzig in
Poland, the plans on which he had spent so much time were discovered. Thinking they were something of great importance, he turned them over to a German Captain, wha after thoroughly
scrutinizing them, called in several higher ranking officers who spent much time in studying these plans on the table before them. Apparently there was much excitement, thinking perhaps
they had uncovered something of importance. The plans were confiscated and Joe became subject to disciplinary action and ordered held for further investigation, during which time he was
kept under surveillance by two German guards for 18 days, after which lime the plans he treasured so much, and apparently had been sent to Berlin, were returned to him with a simple
"O. K." on them. •
Today those plans are a physical reality in Clinton's most appealing spot, the new and modern "Joe's Esso Service Station." The plans that were drawn while he was a prisoner of war can
be seen on display at "Joe's Esso" and he welcomes visits from each and every one and the pleasure and privilege of serving you in a more efficient manner is his.
