Wilburn at tended the Greenwood county sing- ,ng convention Sunday. Mrs. Harmon Murrah. Jr., Mrs. Lavinia Cooley, Bill Byars and Rev. Joe Giles attended the Metho dist area training school held in Laurens last w’eek. Mr. and Mrs. Elvin Stevens and children visited Mr. and Mrs. Claud Lever in Greenwood Sun day. | Mr. and Mrs. Ben Weinberg of Athens, Ga., were week-end guests of the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sloan Rowland. John Gaskin joined Bob Moore of Camden and accompained him to Hendersonville, N. C., for several days this week. Mrs. Wade Jenkins, Lawrence Jenkins and son. Tommy, and Ray Estes visited Pvt. Bobby Jenkins at Parris Island recently. Miss Elaine Franzen of Winthrop, and Bobby Franzen of Clemson, ' Mr. TfTe were guests of their parents. .Tnd Mrs. Carl Franzen, over Farmer w r as hostess to sixteen friends honoring her eighth birth-1 day at her home in Joanna Heights., The guests enjoyed folk songs • and nursery stories on the record player and indoor games. , The appointed table was covered in a w r hite linen cloth and tenter- ed with the lovely white cake, decorated in pink and yellow with! burning candles. On the crystal 1 tray the cake was outlined in small! nosegays of lilies-of-the-valley tied in pink ribbon. As the children gathered around the table they sang “Happy Birthday” to. Becky. Mrs. Farmer, assisted by the hon- oree’s grandmother, Mrs. John Gaskin, served pink and white block ice cream, cup cakes, soft drinks. For souvenirs the girls had plastic party baskets filled with assorted candies and the boys had yellow plastic rabbits with candies. The honored guest received many lovely gifts. ^ Birth Announcements Lever Mr. and Mrs. Claud Lever of Greenwood, announce the birth of a son, Robert Dewitt, at Self Mem orial hospital recently. Appointed Scout Leaders Mrs. Harmon Murrah, Jr., as sumed the duties as the younger scout group leader last Tuesday mghL She succeeds Mrs- Lavinia Cooley who recently resigned. Mr. and Mrs. Chandler Honored Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Chandler were honored last Thursday night by the Joanna school faculty at the cafeteria. Dinner was served buf fet style, informally. A profusion of peach and apple blossoms dec orated the tables. Mr. Chandler left the past week end to begin his duties in his new work at Camp Gordon, Ga. Mrs. Chandler and children plan to join him the first of April. With The Sick Little Phoebe Darnell has re-, turned home after spending sev eral days in Joanna hospital for - treatment: — — Mrs. Louise Cole w r as a patient last week at the local hospital for treatment. Mrs. Ed Hunnicutt is recuperat ing at her home on Milton Road following treatment in a Green wood hospital and at Joanna hos pital. Miss Barbara Dawkins was ad mitted to the local hospital on March 12 for treatment. On March 13 Ryan Poag entered the local hospital to be treated. Edwin Humphries is a patient at Joanna hospital. Little Vernon Koon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Koon of New berry, is a patient at the local hos pital. * Miss Linda Welchel of Joanna, and Mrs. Ollie Wrenn of Clinton, are patients at Joanna hospital. Friends of Jeff O’Dell will be interested to know he is at home following a stay at Hays hospital. Bill Poag Returns To Joanna Friends of Bill Poag will be in terested to kno he has’returned to Joanna. Bill has been in Greenville for two years and -now he has ac cepted a position with Joanna Mills in the Measurement and Standards department. Birthday Party Enjoyed Little Rickie Gardner celebratt ed her third birthday with a party at Joanna club last Friday. The assembly room was trans formed into a playground as the children enjoyed many games. k The party table was decorated with fancy napkins, favors of bal loons and horns and cenetered with, a large white cake inscribed “Hap- j py Birthday, Rickie.” The white' candles in green holders were ! burning as the v group gathered for! refreshments. Mrs. Gardner served ice cream, cookies and soft drinks. Rickie received many gifts which were opened and passed. Camera Club To Organize Anyone interested in organizing a camera club in Joanna is invit ed to attend -the organizational meeting at the club house Saturday evening at 7 o’clock. The meet ing will be held upstairs. Chicken Stew To Be Given The workers of .the second shift •cloth room and their families will enjoy a chicken stew at the club house Saturday night. The stew will be prepared by a group of ladies from that group. Attends Parly Thirty Girl Scouts attended the 40th anniversary • rally of Girl Scouts in Greenwood Saturday. Two movies on Girl Scout activities were enjoyed by 300 girls of the games, songs and refreshments Greenwood council. Miss Hilda Oxner and Hack Prater accompan ied the girls. Sub-District Meets The Maltese Cross sub-district of the MYF met at Joanna school Monday evening at 7:30. Miss Joyce Hart, president, presided during the business session. St. James MYF of Laurens, gave the program which was centered around Easter, the message being given in music.
