Ever-Rcady Class Meets
Last Tuesday evening members
ot thy Ladies Ever-Ready class held
their first quarterly meeting of the
hew year.
The president, Mrs. Joe Abrams,
presided over the business discus
sions. The by-laws for the social
service committee were discussed
at length and revised. Mrs. Joe
Giles, chairman of the flower com
mittee, reported that each Sunday
in the new fiscal year flowers for
the sanctuary had been provided for.
Mrs. J. L. Abrams gave the de
votional thoughts on the hymns and
life of Isaac Watts. Mrs. James
Simpson gave the scripture which
was the 90th Psalm. In closing Mrs.
Hayne Willingham led the prayer
lor guidance in the new year’s work
of the class. * *
The hostesses, Mrs. V. L. Wilburn
and Mrs’. J. J. Abrams, served hot
doughnuts, toasted pecans and cof
fee.

Mrs. .Cole Passes
Friends of Mrs. L. H. Poag and
Charlie Cole extend deepest sym
pathy to them in the passing of their
mother, Mrs. B. S. Cole. Mrs. Cole
passed away last .week in the Green
ville General hospital. The funeral
was at Joanna Baptist church and |
burial at Cross Hill.
Maltese Cross Sub-District Meets
Sixteen members of Epworth MYF
attended the Maltese Cross sub-dis
trict meeting in Laurens Monday
night.
The Joanna MYF presided ' ovei
ihe program, the topic being "A Trip
Into 1952 w^h the MYF.” A dis
cussion was held on the planned
work of the organization for 1952.
Mrs. James Simpson led the eve
ning prayer and Marion Madden
gave the scripture lesson. Others
assisting in presenting the program
were Mesdames Jimmy Murrah, La-
vinia Cooley, Misses Ruth Hunni-
cutt, Brenda O’Dell, Vera Estes,
Margaret White, Anne Niver, Patsy
Whitmire, Mike Cooley,. Wadsworth
Niver III, Clyde Whitmire and
Dusty Reeves.
First church in Laurens, had the
recreation and served refreshments
of iced drinks and cookies. _ •
The next meeting will be held
with St. James church in Laurens
and Shady Grove MYF will have
charge of the program.

Fellowship hour Saturday night in
the assefhbly room of the church. A
fish supper was prepared and serv
ed by the men. Rudolph Prater,
class president, was master of cere
monies, and John H. Hunttfr was the
evening speaker. Rev. Joe Giles
gaye the invocation. Group sing
ing and the Ninety-Six quartet com
posed the musical program.
Scout Court of Honor Held
The Laurens County District Boy
Scout Court of Honor was held at
Joanna school Monday night.
Sixty-three boys and guests were
present. The hew ' advancement
chairman, Rev. Clarence L. Letson,
7t Laurens, was introduced. Among
the guests were Dwight Patterson,
and Larry Weeks of Laurens; John
Flannigan, district scout executive^-
L C. Ficklin, Jim Puryear of Clin
ton; Tom Chandler, J. B. Hart and
G. N. Foy of \Joanna.
The host group served ice cream,
cookies and hot coffee.
The next meeting will be held
on February 18 at Academy Street
school in Clinton.
