INTERESTING FACTS ABOUT SOUTH CAROLINA
REBACCA MOTH
One of South Carolina’s most famous heroines is Rebacca
Motte, who during the Revolutionary period, was driven from
her small farm house by the British. Mrs. Motte gave Gen.
Marion permission to bum her house to force the British out
and even furnished our men with fire arrows which they could
shoot from a musket into the roof. As the British climbed to
the top of the house to put the flames out, Marions riflemen
shot them one by one. The British surrendered _ immediately
and soldiers of both sides climbed to the roof and saved the house.
