paying organization to which all
farmers have access and through
which policies and recommendations
are developed in a democratic way
in open meetings conducted by far
mers themselves all over the country.
By this means, farmers speak for
themseives. In this way, and in this
way (Ally, farmers’ opinions and
t recommendations should be devel-
opend. We oppose the use of any
other means to develop a voice for
agriculture.
We heartily endorse a strong pro
gram to control and eradicate Bang’s
and T. B. in our growing cattle
population, and cholera in hogs, and
we urge the Clemson Livestock San
itary Service to strictly enforce the
Livestock Auction Market law de
signed to help In this program.
We favor provisions for register
ing brands of cattle, provisions for
a minimum five-year penalty for
first offense cattle rustling, and pro
visions for the necessary signs at
cattle crossings on state and county
highways.
We favor a responsibility law and
requirement for the payment of taxes
.on each vehicle for the preceding
year before the issuance of a motor
vehicle license tag.
We endorse the Five-Point Corn
* Growing Program promoted by
* Clemson College.
We call to the attention of the
Officers and Directors of the S. C.
Farm Bureau the great need in South
Carolina for adequate grain storage
and urge the Officers and Directors
to make every effort to encourage
the expansion of grain storage fa
cilities in the state.
, We favor Farm Bureau sponsor
ship of a movement to set up active
livestock disease control committees
in each county of the state to help
educate the public on livestock dis
eases and to assist in carrying out
a disease control program.
We commend the state’s techni
cal livestock committee for its ac
tion toward enforcing disease con
trol laws, and we go on record as
opposing any change that would
weaken our livestock disease con
trol law.
We commend Congress for having
enacted legislation to provide for
making available for public inspec
tion Welfare rolls, and we urge our
General Assembly to enact enabling
legislation making this policy ef
fective in South Carolina.

The sheriff quoted Mrs. Shealy as
saying that Mr. Shealy threatened

a 22 calibre rifle. Before she could
stop him, she said, he braced the
rifle against a window sill and
I shot himself through the head.
Funeral services were held Tues
day afternoon from the Joanna

Mitchell, the Rev. D. M. Shull and
the Rev. J. W. Tomkinson officiat
