VON HOLLEN HONORED WITH DINNER BY ASSOCIATES
John Henry Von Hollen, for 23 years overseer of carding at Lydia Cotton Mills, was honored with a ban
quet last Wednesday evening at Hotel Mary Musgrove. Mr. Von HoUen is seen in the center being presented a
gold watch by Claude A. Crocker. Seated at the table are Hugh Campbell, overseer of spinning department;
P. S. Bailey, president of Lydia and Clinton Mills; J. B. Templeton, superintendent of Lydia, and L. E. Cash,
overseer of weaving.

Upon Retirement.
Honoring John Henry Von Hollen
who is retiring after twenty-three
and one-half years a*s overseer of
the carding department at Lydia
Cotton Mills, a banquet was given
last Wednesday evening at Hotel
Mary Musgrove.
Guests included mill officials, the
administrative department heads,
and overseers for the Lydia and
Clinton Cotton Mills. Mr. Von Hol-
len’s assistants, and his son, S. James
Von Hollen.
Place cards bearing the mill seal
and programs with the guest of hon
or’s picture were at each place. The
program contained a biographical
sketch of Mr. Von Hollen’s life
since he moved to the Lydia com
munity with his family from Ches
ter in July, 1928
Decorations in the thanksgiving
theme, with products from the card
ing department, were effectively
used. Adorning the candlelighted ta
ble was the traditional horn of plen
ty, a large cornucopia filled with
fruits A turkey dinner was served.
Entertainment for the occasion was
furnished by the recreational de
partments of the two mills, under
the direction of Mrs. Joe E. Land
and Mrs.. lone Wallace, and in
cluded dance numbers, solos and in
strumental music. Throughout the
evening Mrs. Land and several of
her pupils rendered the favorite
songs of the guest of honor on the
piano and solovox ensemble.
Short talks were made by Robert
M. Vance, President of M. S. Bailey
& Son, Bankers, David S. Cook, Geo.
H. Cornelson and P. S. Bailey, head
of the two mills. Mr. Bailey paid
tribute to Mr. Von Hollen, praising
him as a fine gentleman, conscien
tious worker and good citizen”, and
presented him with a gift of savings
bonds from tMe organization.
