Postal Rate Hike
Bill Signed, Goes
Into Effect Feb. 1
Washington— President Truman
today signed the postal rate in
crease bill which dooms the penny
post card as a part of a $117 mil
lion annual boost in postal charges.
The new two-cent rate on post
cards goes into effect next Feb. 1.
In addition, there will be a 10 per
cent boost in mailing charges for
newspapers and magazines April
1 next year. Two other 10 per cent
increases on this type of mail will
take effect April 1, 1953, and April
1. 1954, making a 30 per cent hike
in all.

at St. Francis hospital in Greenville
following a leg injury at Wofford
college. Miss Ella Adair, Dillard
Adair and Miss Joan Vaughn of
Kinards, visited him Sunday. His
parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ciifton Adair,
have been spending several days
with him.
Major and Mrs. W. S. Home and
son, Billy, of Columbus, Ga., spent
the week-end with the latter’s par
ents, Mr. and Mrs. P. B. Adair, and
other relatives.

been hospitalized at Forrest City,
Ark , following injuries received in
an automobile accident enroute

and Mr. Hearn are going to Forrest
City to accompany her to Winston-!
Salem. Mrs. Sanford is the former
