BOYD TURNER Revival services will begin Oc tober 7 at the Joanna Baptist | church and continue through the 14th, with two services daily at, 10 a. m., and 7:30 p. m. The guest minister will be the Rev. Boyd Turner, pastor of Bran- 1 don Baptist church, Greenville. The song leader will be the Rev. Joe E. Walker, pastor of Glenn Street church, Newberry. The pastor of the church, Rev. James Mitchell, extends a cordial welcome to the public to attend the | special series of services. Local Mills To Enter State Safety Contest The Clinton and Lydia Mills are taking part in a statewide textile safety contest which is now under way. Winners will be announced on Nov. 15. in Columbia when the statewide ^conference will be held ; on Nov. 14th and 15ttr Both mills 1 have put forth every effort in mak ing their plants a safe place in which to work and they ask the co operation of everyone for the pro- i gram. Founders Day" Observed At Orphanage Monday was observed by the en tire Thomwel! orphanage family oemmemorating "Founders Day.” The institution opened its doors for the reception of orphan children on Octboer 1. 1875. with the late Dr. William Plumer Jacobs as founder. Monday w'as the home’s 76th birth- B' dav. I : Rites Here Today For A. A. May At First Baptist Church A. A. (Gus) May, 68, died at an early hour yesterday morning at the Blalock clinic following an illness of only a few hours. The announcement of his sudden passing came as a great shock to his family and friends. Funeral services will be held this afternoon (Thursday) at 3 p.m. from the First Baptist church, of which he was a member, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. H. Darr. Interment will-follow in the Shady Grove church cemetery near Belton. Mr. May was a native of Union county. He came here about twenty years ago to became manager of the orphanage poultry department, f’or the past several years he had resided near the city on the Cross Anchor highway where he engaged in farm ing and poultry raising. Mr. May was a man of many ad mirable traits of character and there are many who knew and admired him to whom the announcement of his death will bring regret. The deceased is survived by his wife, the former Mrs. Ruby Keller H a y n s ; one step-daughter, Miss Katherine Hayns; three brothers, Clyde May of San Francisco, J. C. May of York, Pa., and John Henry May of Spartanburg. Horry Hampton Speaks at Wildlife Meet In Joanna A number of residents of this com munity, Joanna and other parts of the county gathered in the recre ational pavilion at Joanna Monday NUNN-BLSH OXFORDS $15.95 and $17.95 L. B. DILLARD night for a previously arranged meeting which was presided over by Dr. D. H. McFadden, president of the new wildlife chapter. The guest speaker was Harry Hampton, of Columbia, president of the S. C. Wildlife Federation, and prominent fpr years in wildlife cir cles. Members who recently organ ized the chapter and are interested primarily in increasing the game and fish supply of the county were pres ent. Game and fish movies were shown, 'and a later meeting planned of the executive committee. The officers are planning to make the chapter one of the most active in the state.
