Six-Inch Sermon
By REV. ROBERT H. HARPER
THE LARGER FELLOWSHIP OF
CHRISTIANS
Act* 11: 27-39; 15; 1-2, 22-23, 28-
31; II ( urinthian* 9: 1-5.
Memory Selection: Luke 9:5t.
In the course of time, the disciples
were brought to realize that the fel
lowship that is so necessary in the
local congregation is also necessary
to Christians from all quarters. At
the first, the disciples, chiefly Jews,
thought the gospel should be confined
to their race. By degrees they saw
that Christ came to be a Savior unto
all men.
A Christian church had been form
ing in Antioch, and, after Agabus had
predicted a wide famine, the Chris
tians of Antioch decided to send re
lief by the hands of Barnabas and
| Paul to the distressed Christians in
1 Jerusalem.
i Afterward a cause of contention
came concerning circumcision; some
! of the Jewish Christians maintaining
| that Gentile converts should be cir-
cumsized and others claiming that
they should not. When the matter
came before the Jerusalem church, the
decision was to require of converts
only that they abstain from meat that
had been offered to idols, and from
things strangled, and from fornica
tion. Thus was a difficult question de
cided and the way cleared for the
larger course of Christianity in the
world.
In Corinthians II we find Paul writ
ing concerning the ministering to the
saints. He urged giving in true stew
ardship to provide relief for the poor
among the saints of Jerusalem.
