Club Elects Officers
The G. A.’s met Monday night
at the home of Mrs. Clyde Tram
mell, GA counsellor. This being
the first meeting of the year, the
following officers were elected:
President—Betty Lou Parrish.
Vice-President—Mary Jane Mc
Lendon.
Secretary—Carolyn Bennett.
Treasurer—Joyce Queen.
Mission Chairman—Ruth Tram
mell.
After the business session the
GA manual was discussed and for
ward steps studied.
The meeting closed with the
Lord’s Prayer in unison.
Hobby Club Enters Exhibit at Fair
The Lydia community was well
pleased with the praise they re
ceived in comments on the attrac
tive booth at the commercial build
ing last \yeek at the Laurens coun
ty fair. The Hobby club sponsor
ed the prqject. In a black and
white setting a four-tiered stand re
volving carried arrangements of ar
ticles displayed at the recent Hob
by show. This consists of hand
made earrings, etched crystal, hand
painted Bavarian china, Dek-alled
woodenware, ming trees, etched
aluminum, copper and brass trays,
textile painted dresses and aprons
and several copper and brass waste
baskets. The theme used was "Do
with a Purpose, Decorate for Pleas
ure and Profit.”

Mrs. Hudson Davis is recovering
after a few days illness of flu.
Mrs. R. D. Gregg is home after
being a hospital patient.
Mrs. James E. Wells is a patient
at the Blalock clinic.
Presbyterian Church Services
Due to the fifth Sunday the ser
vices next Sunday will again be at
the evening hour of 7 o’clock, with
preaching at 11:00 a. m., by Mal
colm Bullock, student pastor.

Quiz Winners Announced
"The Quiz of Two Mills,” a con
test being broadcast over WLBG, is
proving to be a very interesting
program with contestants winning
prizes and employees who send in
questions used on the program win
ning prizes. Last week W. Pierre
Burdette, used questions on histori
cal facts concerning Laurens coun
ty. Mrs. Bonnie Reid drew this
category naming Bill Cunningham
as a kinsman of a Laurens woman
who founded the association to per
petuate the Mt. Vernon estate She
didn’t know that "Pitchfork" Ben
Tilfman was a governor with the
nickname of a barnyard tool, and
that Andrew Johnson was-onve a
tailor’s apprentice in Lauren,.
Charles Hairston 'selected the
quiz on boxing. He proved to be
somewhat of an expert on this sub
ject. naming Jersey Joe Walcott
as heavyweight champion and that
he defeated Ezzard Charles. That
Max Schmehng knocked out Joe
Louis in 1936 Charles missed nam
ing the year, but answered that
Max Schmehng was fouled by Jack
Sharkey in 1930.
Music questions entered by Mrs.

veen in a clear soprano voice sang
