Interest in the concerts has been
widespread throughout the county
and has drawn capacity audiences.
The drive was launched Monday
evening with an opening dinner
meeting at the Hotel Mary Mus-
grovee attended by seventy-fiv
members of the executive board,
directors and volunteer workers of
the association. This is the largest
group of members that the Com
munity Concert series has ever had
at the opening meeting.
Dr. G. Watts Cunningham, presi
dent of the association, presided
at the dinner, welcomed the work
ers and began his remarks with
“what we need is good musk, good
music in the aesthetic sense—
music that is morally good.”

county when the first community
concert was launched in January,
Special to The Chronicle.
Washington, Sept. 18. — Senate
ratification of the Japanese peace
treaty before the tentative ad
journment date of October 1 is a
possibility, according to adminis
tration leaders here. In the mean
time, a senate floor battle over the
strong recommendation of the
finance committee to tax coop
eratives, is almost a certainty,
much to the surprise of the strong
farm bloc in both houses of con
gress. That the proposed tax bill
exempts co-ops under $100,000 in
assets, exclusive of inventory, is
j not much of a satisfaction to the
farm bloc leaders, since, if passed,
the tax bill proposal would reverse
a national policy of 35 years stand
ing to exempt cooperatives from
taxation.

house and by a vote of 55-to 16 m

Copper-bottomed utensils can be!
easily cleaned if you sprinkle the
bottoms with salt, then rub with
lemon used for this makes easy

Carry a small, stiff-bristled
brush as you go about your house
work, and you’ll fmd it handy for
brushing off pieces of lint on the

When storing your pressure
saucepan in the cupboard, invert
the lid loosely in the pan. Never
close the pressure pan with the

Glasses which have had iced bev

rinsed in cool water which is then
gradually warmed for washing gb
the glasses do not break.
Only soap with water should be
used ( to_ wash rubber pieces like

RECIPE OF THE WEEK
Liver Sandwich Spread
1 chopped onion
1 tablespoon butter
2 hard-coked eggs
2-3 pound steamed pork liver
1-3 cup cream
Salt and pepper
Steam liver for 25 minutes in
tightly covered pan. Cool and put
liver through meat grinder. Mince
eggs. Brown onion in melted but
ter. Mix all ingredients together,
seasoning to taste with salt and
pepper. Keep spread refrigerated
until ready to use, then spread on
white or whole wheat bread.
To prevent dish cloths from ac
quiring an odor, wash and rinse
in clear water after each use, and
hang to dry. If you are looking for
a remedy for the dish cloth prob
lem, place in a bleaching solution
with water and let stand for an
hour. Wash in suds, then boil in
