the special feature. She showed

; demonstration on “Canning” was
! given by Mrs. J. C. Johnson, one
; of the local leaders. She told what
kind of cans to use and how to pre
pare food for canning.
During the social hour a contest
was led by the recreational leader.
Refreshments were served by the
hostesses, Mrs. Wrenn and Mrs.
Larry DeShields.

Winthrop college, who reigned Saturday afternoon as queen at the annual
May Day festivities in the college amphitheatre. Miss Wingard is editor
of The Johnsonian, student newspaper, this semester and president of
Alpha Psi Omega, national honor dramatics society. She was elected
“Miss South Carolina” in 1949 and represented the state at the “Miss
America" contest st Atlantic City that year. She is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. B. F. Wingard. Her small brother, Barrinrer Fox Wingard, was
train hearer.
One of her four senior attendants was Mrs. Rebecca Copeland Hays
(Peggy Copeland), member of the senior class, and daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Guy L. Copeland of this city.

floor baskets and candelabra.
The bride wore a beige dress
with brown accessories. Her cor
sage was an orchid.

tribute to the cancer drive, and a
good sum was realized.
