Ripley Collection
To Be Shown Here
On April 2nd
Robert Ripley’s personal collec
tion of “Believe It or Not” oddities,
being exhibited on national toiir
under auspices of the Disabled
American Veterans, will be pre
sented here for one day only,
Monday, April 2, by the depart
ment of South Carolina, DAV.
Believe It or Not cartoons have
been appearing in newspapers
throughout the world for years. On
display in this exhibit will be some
of the original drawings picturing
facts which many found difficult
to believe. The greater portion of
the exhibit features part of Ripley’s
amazing collection of the authen
tic original subjects on which the
cartoons are based. Every item is
selected from the unusual assort
ment of strange things which Mr.
Ripley spared 1 no effort or expense
to unearth during his endless explo
rations of all parts of the world.
The mobile exhibit is mounted in
a special custom-built trailer, fea
turing a full collection of authentic
replicas of the world's famous dia
monds, including the Hope, the
CulLinan, the Pasha, the Kohinoor,
and the Star of India. In addition
to this spectacular display, there
are many curious items from far
away lands With strange customs,
like the Soulcatcher, Eskimo drink
ing cup, and a shrunken head.
Included in this exhibit are mys
terious oddities and wonders of
every age and every part of the
world. There is the iron cross that
formed in the heart of a tree., the
world's largest women's shoes, the
magic rattle of a medicine man. the

Hot House-Senate ,*
Difference On
Bitl Expected
Columbia, March 26.—The hottest
house-senate difference of opinion
in the apparently inevitable free
conference on the general appro
priations bill will probably come
on some of the education sections
—particularly that one dealing
with the allocation of funds.
Both bills would allocate $15 per
year per pupil for school construc
tion and an additional $5 on the
same basis for administration. The
house version would make this al
location to the school districts un
der the supervision of the county
board of education. The senate fi
nance committee version, however,
would make the allocation on a
county-wide basis, abolishing all
county boards of education and
creating new boards to be appoint
ed by the governor upon the ad
vice and consent of the senate.
House members declare this
would leave education expenditures
entirely in the hands of the sena
tors, since the senator from each
county would recommend members
of the county board to the governor
for appointment.
