Wasson of Hick ory Tavern, was named vice-presi dent, and John H. Wharton of Water loo, secretary-treasurer. In addition to the officers, the board of directors were named. On the board are: E. J. Poole of En- oree, J. M. Babb of Gray Court, Gar vin B. O’Dell of Poplar Springs, George E. Brown of Madden Station, David R. Blakely of Oak Grove, and W. E. Bell of Renno. The nominating committee w*Ss composed of T. B. Sumerel, Craig Hunter and George Wasson. They submitted 13 names out of which the officers and directors were named. Thursday, March 15, 1951 The cooperative will serve a ma jority of Laurens county and parts 1 of Newberry, Greenville and Abbe-J ville counties. W. T. Bolt, attorney, discussed the* procedure of organizing the coopera-j live and discussed the by-laws. The; by-laws were adopted as printed andj the capital stock approved as $150,- 000. ' The directors requested persons who have signed applications for telephone service and deposited five dollars as good faith, to pay the re-! mainedr of their stock which is $31. They asked that checks be made payable to the Piedmont Rural Tele phone Cooperative and mailed to the County Agent's office or the Laurens REA office, or to give it to any mem ber of the board of community com mitteemen who helped sign up the applications. They declared that those who want telephones can still sign up for the same amount ($36). They pointed out that the coope rative is being pushed as rapidly as possible. They said some people have asked whether a person in the rural area can phone to town with out being charged a toll. "This, of course, depends on what town a per son wishes to call. For example, suppose a person lives in the Oak Grove community, and their tele phone is connected with the switch board in Laurens. "Every rural person having such connection may talk to any one in the Laurens rural area without a toll charge. But if they call Clinton, Greenville or other such places, they * will be charged the toll on the same * basis as any other phone system would handle a long distance call." * J. R.
