Little Leaguers,
Midgets Must Have
Birth Certificates
1 All Little Leaguers and midget
Ivaseball players taking part in the
recreation program in Clinton this
summer will be required to have a
birth certificate before they play in
any scheduled game. These certifi
cates may be obtained from the Lau- |
rens Health Department if bom in
the county or from the State Health
Department at Coliunbia.
To be eligible to play Little League
ball, a boy must be bom after Aug.
1, 1938. A Midget must be born
after January 1, 1936.
The state Little League tourna
ment will be held here around Aug.
1 and the state Bidget tournament
will be held in Charleston about Aug.

Chamber Official Explains
Manager Plan To Directors
Ed. H. Cherry, manager of the
Southwestern division of the United
States Chamber . of Commerce, met
Tuesday morning with the board of
directors of the local organization.
Mr. Cherry outlined a plan of se
curing a full-time manager for the
organization and pointed out the ad
vantages of such a set-up. He stated
that an annual budget of about $10,-
000 would be needed to put the plan
of operation into effect. No action
was taken by the directors.

School Announced
In City For All
Store Workers
The Clinton Merchants association
and the Distributive Education de
partment of the Department of Edu
cation will sonsor an employees edu
cational program March 13 and 14, D.
B. Smith, president, announced yes
terday.
Mrs. J. A. Timmerman, teacher of
distributive education in this area, is
in the city to make arrangements.
The two educational programs are
to be held in the New Broadway
theatre in the mornings before work
ing hours begin. Films on improved
selling methods and guest speeches
will be part of the program. In ad
dition there will be door prizes.
There will also be classes In all in
dividual stores that wish the class
es. Classes are now being held at
the high chool for all students who
now work.
Other officers of the local associa
tion are J. C. Thomas, vice-presi
dent, and James E. Wolfe, secretary-
treasurer.
Last Rites Held
For John Gulley
John Gulley, 71, died early Tues
day morning at a Columbia hospital
after several years of declining
health.
He was a native of Georgia, but
had made his home in Clinton for
19 years. He was a member of the
Baptist ohurch.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs.
Essie Kemells Gulley of Clinton; one
brother, T. J. Gulley, of Comer, Ga.;
two sisters, Mrs. Paul Fuller of And
erson, and Mrs. Lou Harrison of Bir
mingham, Ala.
Funeral services were conducted
Wednesday at 4:30 at his home on
Musgrove street by the Rev. J. W.
Spillers. Interment followed' in Rose-
! mont cemetery. Nephews were pall
bearers.

Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Ferguson, Sr.,
returned yesterday from St. Peters
burg, Fla., where they have been
spending several weeks.
Linda Braswell, daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. J. E. Braswell, is a patient
at Hays hospital.
Mrs. Tuggle of Rome, Ga., is vis
iting her son-in-law and daughter,
Mr. and Mrs. W. J. MdBrayer, Jr.
Mrs. Everett Carson arid son, John
; Little, of Gastonia, N. C., are visit
ing her sister, Miss Jamie Little.
