Surprise Birthday Party
Miss Mary Ellen Cannon was hon
ored with a surprise birthday party
at the home of Miss Geraldine Bar
bery, Tuesday night February 6th.
Games' were enjoyed during the
evening with Mrs. William Cannon
and Miss Barbery in charge.
Each guest remembered Mary El
len with a gift.
Later during the evening refresh
ments were served. Miss Barbery
was assisted by Mrs. William Cannon
and Mrs. W. R. Cauble.
Club Meets Tonight
The Melody club will meet Thurs
day night, February 15, 7:30 p. m.
at the Community building. All
members are urged to be'present as
new officers for the coming year are
to be elected.
The Woman’s Club Meets
The Woman’s club held its regular
monthly meeting Monday night at
the Community house. The club
rooms were beuatifully decorated in
the Valentine motif of pine and red
hearts.
The meeting was called tp order
by the president, Mrs. J. V. Lowe.
Roll call and minutes of the last
meeting were read. Mrs. Blakely had
charge of the scripture. After the
business was discussed the group en
joyed a musical program by Mrs. Joe
Land, Miss Martha Washington, with
Catherine Dunnaway, Alma Spillers
and Allan Trammell taking part.
Jackie Franks delighted the group
with a tap dance.
During the social hour Valentines
were exchanged by the members.
Each member invited a guest for
the party. There were 36 present.
Two new members were added to the
roll.
The social committee served sand
wiches, cuke and coffee. The favors
for the party were made by a group
of the Campfire girls.
The n$xt meeting will be held at
rhe Community house the 3rd Tues
day of March.
Mill Management Entertains
Chib Officers
The management of the Clinton
Cotton mills entertained all officers
of the civic organizations on Thurs
day evening at 7:30 p. m. with a ban
quet at the Community house.
Mrs. Joe E. Land had charge of
a musical program consisting of sev
eral numbers from members of the
Music club.
Mrs. J. V. Lowe, president of the
Woman’s cliA>, introduced the presi
dents of other clubs after which a
representative from each gave some
of the highlights of each group, tell
ing of the work being done in the
community.
An interesting talk was given by
George Oomelson which was, enjoyed
by all present.
The* rooms and tables were beau
tifully decorated in keeping with
Valentine.
The teen-age group of campfire
girls served and the Junior group
made the favors tor the tdoles.
