Ed McAlister was honored on his
69th birthday December 25, with a
dinner given by his children at the
home of his daughter, Mrs. T. L.
McCarson, in Laurens. Twenty-three
guests were seated around the decor
ated table. Mr .McAlister received
several remembrances.
Engagement Announced
Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Shumate an
nounce the engagement of their
daughter, Iris, to Bill Fennell. The
wedding will take place in the early
spring, the date to be announced
later. ^

a stay and treatment in a Clinton
hospital.

Bridge Club Meets
With Mrs. Shields
The Wednesday bridge club met
last week at the home of Mrs. W.
M. Shields for a number of after-1
noon games.
The Christmas motif was prettily
carried out in the rooms where the
tables were arranged for cards. Top
honor was won by Mrs. Hugh Jac
obs. When cards were laid aside
the hostess served a salad course
and each guest was given a minia
ture cake in the shape of a Christ
mas wreath.

Mr*. Mauldin received her educa
tion in Lee County schools and grad-1
uated with tie class at 1950. She
was employed at Pierce Gift Shop'
on First Street for a year.
Mr. Mauldin attended Fort My
ers Schools and was a member of the
Green Wave football team. He plans
to continue his education in Texas,
where they will make their home.
Mr. Mauldin is a former resident
of this city and his marriage will be
read with interest by friends and rel
atives here.
Stuart-Miller
Rites At Coronaca
Miss Lalla Stuart of Coronaca, and
William Hassell Miller of Whitmire,
were married at Bethlehem Metho
dist church in Coronaca Sunday, De
cember 17, at 4 JO with a number of
relatives and friends attending the
ceremony. The Rev. C. L. Harris of
ficiated.
The couple had no attendants.
Brooks Stuart and Sam Leaman of
Cross Hill, lighted the candles.
Mrs. Ross Templeton, organist,
played “To A Wild Rose,” and Mrs.
Ratchford of Glenn Springs, present
ed the vocal selections which includ
ed “I Love You Truly.”
The church was decorated with
floor 'baskets of white chrysanthe
mums and gladioli and candelabra
holding lighted candles.
The bride wore a plum suit with
dusty pink accessories and a purple
orchid corsage.
Mrs. Miller graduated at Lander
college and received her MA. degree
from the University of South Caro
lina. She ha* formerly taught in the
Greenville city schools and has re
cently been a teacher at Connie Max
well.
Mr. Miller also attended the Uni
versity of South Carolina and is In
business in Whitmire where they will
make their home.
