C., and Jared LeRoy Johnson, son of Mrs. J. Burr Johnson ,of Clin ton, were married in the Dilworth Methodist dhaipel in Charlotte, N. C. , at 12:00 noon on October 14. Joint Hostesses Entertain Club Entertaining, jointly for their card club and a number of visitors Mrs. Roy Casque and Mrs. Wilmort Shealy were hostesses for bridge Thursday afternoon at the home of the foimer. Evergreens, berries, tall red tapers and other appointments suggestive of the.season made a pretty back ground for four tables. Prizes for the games went to Mrs. J. W. Purvis, a club guest, Mrs. Car- roll Preslar and Miss Eloise Miller, also a visitor. During the afternoon a salad course was enjoyed. Tuesday Club Meets With Mrs. Williams Hie Tuesday bridge club met the past week at the home of Mrs. Bailey Williams with a number of guests also being invited for the games. Three tables were in play with prizes being given Mrs. Heath Cope land, Mrs. I. M. Adair and Mrs. A. D. SaWer at the conclusion of the progressions. The hostess served sal ad and sweet courses after cards. As a setting, holly, pyracantha ber ries and other Christmas adornment were attractively arranged in the card rooms. Mrs. A. D. Salter Entertains At Bridge Mrs. A. D. Salter entertained guests for five tables of bridge on Thursday afternoon at her home on Hampton street. The Yule tide motif was carried out in decorations using ’evergreens, ber ries and red tapers. After several rounds score awards were presented Mrs. J. B. Hart and Mrs. D. O. Rhame Mrs. Carlisle Neely won cut prize. Later in the afternoon the hostess served a tempting party plate. Bridge Club Meets With Mrs. Milam Thursday members of her bridge club met at the home of Mrs. Dillard Milam, Jr., for a number of afternoon games Long leaf pine banked the living room mantel which held a snow scene and white Candles were placed at either end. Elsewhere berries and greenery were decorative. Several progressions were made at th two tables with prizes going to Mrs. T. C. Johnson, Jr., and Mrs. J. William Johnson, a visitor. Lutheran Group Has December Meeting The December meeting of the Woman’s Missionary Society of St. John's Lutheran church was held on Monday evening with Mrs. Henry C. Sober. Mrs. James C. Dicker! assisted by Mm. Fred Burnett, Mrs. R. W. Boland and Mrs. Billy Johnson presented the program which included the Christ mas story and the singing of carols. A special offering was taken for Konnarock school in Virginia which is supported by the Lutheran church. At the conclusion of the program the hostess served a chicken salad course, cake and tea. Miss Ellen Dorr Honored With Tea On Tuesday afternoon, Mrs. Cald well Henderson entertained with a coffee at her home on Centennial street in honor of Miss Blanche El len Darr, whose marriage to William Smith of Charleston, takes place Sat urday . Holly berries and other greens were used effectively in the enter taining rooms. From a prettily ap pointed table, centered with tall green candles, surrounded by green ery, the hostess served a delicious sweet course with coffee. Miss Darr was given a piece of silver in her pattern and also a cor sage of white roses. The hostess was assisted in enter taining by her mother, Mrs. W. A. Mooreihead and Mrs. Mike Turner. Music Club Holds Open Meeting The annual December open meet ing of the Clinton Music club was a gala social affair on Thursday even ing at the State Training school with over a hundred members and guests in attendance. Featuring the evening’s entertain ment was a play given by a number of Training school students—“The Sleeping Beauty” under the direc tion of Miss Norma Hallett of the school staff and Mrs. La Bruce Heist of Greenville, augmented with music by the music chib sextette and marked with beautiful costumes and stage settings. Jackie Franks and Pat Chisholm of this city, pupils of Mrs. Heist’s dancing class also ap peared in the presentation. Later an informal reception was enjoyed and coffee, tea, sandwiches and cookies served. Throughout the school auditorium bright berries, festive Christmas trees, burning tapers and greenery were effectively used for decoration. Sunday School Class Enjoys Dinner Party On Tuesday evening thirty mem bers of the T.EJL. class of the Bap tist Sunday school enjoyed; a pro gressive dinner party carrying out the Christmas theme. Mrs. Marvin DeYoung was hostess for cocktails with Mrs. Earl Horton assisting. Salad was served by Mrs. Hazel Duncan at her home, assisted by Mrs. Andy Young, Jr., and Mrs. John R. Webb. Mrs. T. C. Johnson, Jr. entertained the class for the main course, with Mrs. Noland Suddeth, Mrs. Lavem Dalrymple, and Mrs. O. F. Beaty as co-hostesses. The group then weht to the home of Mrs. Cecil Wilson for dessert served by Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Fred Brandt, Mrs. T. R. McElveen, and Mrs. R. H. Bu ford. After a devotional period conduct ed by Angela Cassanova, Mrs. Jack Blakely, accompanied by Mrs. Fred Brandt, sang “Silent Night.” After wards the class joined in singing car ols. Santa paid the group a surprise visit and distributed gifts from the beautiful tree. Sara Glenn Circle Has Christmas Party Monday evening members of the Sara Glenn circle of Broad Street Methodist church were entertained at a Christmas party at the home of Mrs. Clifton Adair. Assisting as hostesses were Mrs. Julian Coleman, Miss Rose Lee and Mrs. W. M Hughes. Guests were invited into the rec reation room of the Adair home where a Christmas setting prevailed with a beautifully decorated tree, bells, evergreens and berries. In the large open fireplace a gypsey fire burned rainbow colors. Before the meeting a salad course, tea, decorat ed cakes and other delicacies carry ing out the traditional motif were served. Mrs. J. K. Haselden gave the de votional and Mrs. S. M. Warner read a Christmas story. Later each guest was presented with a remembrance from the tree and donations were made for a special cause. Yuletide Program For U. D. C. Chapter Mrs. D. A. Yarborough, Mrs. Metta Stone, Miss Sara Stone, Miss Mary Johnson, and Mrs. Tom J. Leake, were hostesses to the Stephen D. Lee Chapter, United Daughters of the Confderacy for the December meet ing on Thursday evening at the Yar borough home. Miss Lily Yarborough who had ar ranged the evening’s program gave an article "Old Christmases I Re member” by Captain Samuel Ashe. Mrs. A. M. Copeland gave the de votional. Pine boughs with many lighted ta- perrs and a decorated tree gave a festive setting to the home for the occasion. During the evening am brosia and fruit cake were served. Gifts were exchanged and each member contributed a gHt of money for a daughter jn the - confederate home. Musgrove Club Holds Meeting The December meeting of the Mus grove Home Demonstration club was held at the home of Mrs. P. B. Mitch ell on the afternoon of December 6th. The meetmg was presided over by the president. “O Come All Ye Faith ful” was sung by the club. Mr?. Lar ry DeShields gave the devotional, using as the tlheme the birth of Christ | taken from Luke 2, which was fol lowed by prayer. The roll was called by the secre tary. During the business session Miss Hall told about the demonstra lions to be given in the new year, Mrs. A. A. May resigned as president and Mrs. Larry DeShields Was elect ed her successor. During the recreation period Miss Hall and Miss Dean led games which were appropriate to the Christmas season. Then gifts from under a beautifully decorated Christmas tree were exchanged. Refreshments were served by the hostess. Lovely Tea Honors Miss Darr, Bride-Elect Complimentung Miss Blanche El len Darr who will be married Sat urday to William Warmamaker Smith of Conway and Charleston the Woman’s Missionary Union of the First Baptist church entertained with a lovely tea on Thursday afternoon. The social rooms of the church were beautifully appointed in a green and white bridal motif for the occasion. Mrs. Joe Leake and Mrs. Charlie Cooper greeted the guests. In the receiving line with the hon- oree and her mother were Mrs. S. A.
