Shady Grove Club
Holds Meeting
The Shady Grove Home Demon
stration club met in the club room
on Wednesday, Nov. 22, 1950.
The meeting was called to order
by the president, Mrs. Belt Cooper.
She gave the thought for the month.
Mrs. Luther Johnson had charge of
the devotional. America was sung.
The Health chairman, Mrs. Jim Ev
ans, had charge of the meeting. She
discussed family health. After the
meeting Mrs. Evans and Mrs. Coop
er served a salad plate and coffee.
Mrs. Rhome Hostess
Century Club Members
Tuesday afternoon, November 21,
1 the Century club met at the home
of Mrs. D. O. Rhame with nineteen
members in attendance.
Continuing the study of American
leaders Mrs. John W. Harris gave the
program on Alben W. Barkley, vice-
president of the United States.
The next meeting will be held
Tuesday afternoon, December 5, at
4 o'clock at the home of Mrs. Pres
ton Thompson.

called the meeting to order, led in
the legion ritual and prayer, which

tion chairman, read a letter from Mrs.
Gary Pashal, state chairman for the
cause. A report on the fall rally held
in Columbia in October was given
by Mrs. Baldwin.
Mrs. Elliott Law, membership
chairman, had charge of the program
and read an interesting article on the
drafting of women.
Later in the afternoon during a
social hour, Mr®. Henry M. Young’s
group who were hostesses for the oc
casion served sandwiches, cookies
and tea.

ter, Daisy Margaret, to Mr. Richard
Russell Ray on November 4th at Bi
loxi, Mias.
The bride was becomingly attired
in a suit of ice blue with black ac
cessories.
Mrs. Ray is a daughter of Mrs.
Mittie Lee King and the late Wil
liam P. King of Joanna.
The groom, before joining the U.
S. Air Force, held a ■ position with
the Clinton mill drug store. At pres
ent he is stationed at Keesler Air
Base, Biloxi, Miss., where they will
make their home.
Members of the daffodil unit were
entertained at the home of Mrs. R
E. Ferguson, Sr., with Mrs. Carroll
White Copeland, Mrs. Lewis Pitts,
Mrs. Gus Ramage, Mrs. Walter Dan-
hoff, Mrs. R. C. Adair and Mrs. John
W. Finney, Sr., assisting as hostesses.
Mrs. Plus Brown, chairman, pre
sided over the program which had
“Christmas Decorations” as a theme.

these decorations. Prize for the most
attractively wrapped gift went to

was beautifully decorated in the
Christmas motif. On the living room
mantel, banked with pine sprays and
giant cones, tall white tapers, gleam
ing red and silver balls and a large
silver bow were arranged off-center.
A miniature tree gaily decorated and
surrounded by tiny gifts adorned
the console. On the coffee table was
a large red candle and holly and
gilded yucca leaves and pastel
Christmas balls were in a gold con
tainer on a table by the door. A snow
man, a large cane and holly sprays
were on the front door. Assisting
with the decorations were Mrs. Mar
shall Brown, Mrs. Preston Thompson,
Mrs. Tom Addison and Mrs. Wilson
for members of her card club.
Two tables were daintily appointed
for refreshments and when the guests
assembled a sweet course, coffee and
nuts were enjoyed. Winners of the
afternoon’s progressions were Mrs.
Roy Casque and Mrs. B. C. Preslar
who were presented high and second
score awards. Floating prize went to
Mrs. Jasper Rowland.

card rooms as a background for the
occasion.

City Reported $580
It was reported yesterday that in
the recent Seal Sale bond drive in
the city $580 was raised, an increase
of $100 over last year. Those direct

bers attending and the chairman,
Mrs. Robert S. Owens, presiding.
Hal Kohn of Newberry was the
guest speaker and gave an illustrat
ed lecture on Christmas mantel and
door decorations. A social hour was
enjoyed following the program and
the hostesses served a delightful re
freshment course. Assisting Mrs.
