Hear Book Review
The November meeting of the
Stephen D Lee Chapter, United
Daughters of the Confederacy was
held on Thursday evening at the
home of Mrs. P. M. Pitts with' Miss
Margaret Holland, Miss Arva Henry,
Miss Sallie Wright and Mrs. Zee
McLees as assistant hostesses.

entertained members of her bridge'
club for a number of afternoon
games.

were used at vantage points in the
, card rooms where two tables were
in ploy. When scores were counted
Mrs. Harry E. Wilkes was found to
be winner and was presented a prize.
During the afternoon a refresh
ment course of sandwiches, dainties
and cold drinks were served.
Odds and Ends Club

nesday afternoon to members of the
Odds and Ends Book club.

flowers in autumn tints to make a
pretty background for the meeting.
The exchange of books were conduct
ed and a delightfully informal hour
enjoyed. Late in the afternoon salad
and sweet courses were served with
punch.

Lutheran Group Meets
With Mrs. Woodruff
Monday evening the November
meeting of the Woman’s Missionary
Society of St. John’s Lutheran church
was held at the home of Mrs. O. C.
Woodruff.
Mrs. W. T. Kanning led the pro
gram on “Magazine Talk”, a dis
cussion of the United Lutheran pub
lications. She was assisted by Mrs.
Rhett P. Ai?air, Mrs. James C. Dick-
ert. Mrs. W. W. Johnson and Mrs
Woodruff. A report was given on the
Piedmont conference. November 2,
by Mrs. Dickert.
During the social hour the hostess
served a salad plate, sandwiches,
j cake and punch. A reflected arrange- '
'ment of lavender chrysanthemums ;
adorned the mantel and elsewhere in 1
; the living rooms were yello w chry-
i santhemums.

sions. The devotional on “Great Bi
ble Prayers” was conducted by Mrs.
R. L. Plaxico. Fruit cake and coffee
were served by the hostess at the
close of the afternoon.

Memorial church met at the home of

Mrs. E. A. Richardson, circle chair-

Mrs. Hattie Blankenship brought the
program on “Leading People To
Christ,” from the Survey. The Bible
lesson, “The Greatest Prayer—The
Lord’s Prayer,” was discussed by
Mrs. F. M. Stutts who began the de
votional period wits silent prayer.
