Newsprint Price
* Is Hiked Again
New York, Nov. 1—Newsprint
prices were increased today $6 per
ton by International Paper Sales
Company, representing International
Paper, the largest of the Canadian
newsprint producers.
Five other Canadian firms hiked
the price during the past two weeks
$10 per ton. International's is $4 a

effective Nov. 1 and left little ques
tion that the newsprint price rise
would become general and indicated
there might be two scales in the in
dustry.
The International increase brings
its price to $106 a ton. New York
basis, compared with $110 for the
others.
The last general price increase on
newsprint was in the middle of 1948
when the Nejy York level rose from
$96 to $100.
The Clinton Chronicle gets its en
tire newsprint supply from the In
ternational Paper Company.

Hallowe’en Program Given
To begiq the Hallowe'en season the
third grade of Providence school had
a Hallowe’en program at chapel ser
vices on Friday morning. A play, “A
Hallowe’en Fantasy,” was presented
by a selected group. Hallowe’en
poems were recited by Linda Patter
son, Franklin Williams, Joyce Roof,
Myrtis Livingston, Vinan Pearson
and Blonzell McClain. The program
closed with a group of Hallowe’en
songs. For the devtional the First
Psalm was given from iheifiory.
Communities Have Booth at Fair
The Clinton and Lydia communi
ties are sponsoring exhibition booths
at the Laurens county fair. The
theme of “Recreational Education
Merits—Best Employees— Excellent
Products” is carried out in a unique
way. The overhead decoration is
made of products manufactured in
the mills. Athletic and recreation ac
tivities are displayed by laying a
miniature village, using designs of
the recreation facilities in the com
munities.
Party For Little Gayle Johnson
Tuesday morning at 10 o’clock in
the Kindergarten rooms Mrs. Carl
Johnson was hostess to members of
the Kindergarten at a lovely party!
honoring the third birthday of her
little daughter, Gayle.
The rooms were decorated in or
ange and black, an orange frosted
chocolate cake holding the birthday
candles was the center of a Hallo
we’en scene placed on the table.

fruit punch was served by Mrs.

Twenty-five children were present
and enjoyed with Gayle the many
presents she received.
