THE CHRONICLE Strives To Be A Clean Newspaper, Complete ^Newsy and Reliable (Slhnmirlp If You Don't Read THE CHRONICLE You Don't Get the News Volume LI Clinton, S. C, Thursday, October 19, 1950 Number 42 New Suits Slim But Hem Eased Arrow narrow from shoulder to hem, this is the silhouette of your suit for Fall 1950. Yes, suit skirts are straighter than ever this season and are usually ac companied by jackets that follow the slim pattern closely with feminine neckline and hip detailing to serve as pleasing softening notes. Three-and-f our-piece suit ensem bles will be much in evidence. Some times with a plaid or selffabric wes- kit added, occasionally with a handy extra skirt and in the four-piece un its, accompanied by its own matchr ing topper. Longer Jackets Along with its pared-down lines, you can expect your jacket to be longer than last season, 26-inches at least. This mannish model is great ly diminished, however, by the new Paris-inspired horseshoe neckline, so effectiye when filled-in with a pastel or brightly hued scarf. Arched: hip lines, i^ contrast to the new gently fitted waistlines, often have the slightest bit of padding for extra em phasis. Bird and velvet trims add ev en more feminity. In many instances, suit jackets will be belted low on the waist and drop-shouldered in continuation of this deepset effect. More Padding w Although more upbuilding padd ing is being used for shoulders than in recent seasons, the melted-in look continues high in fashion favor. Sleeves most often end in $l tightly nipped shirt-waist cuff. They are popular, too, wth tiny free-flying cuffs or with the cuffs eliminated entirely and substituted by minia ture pleats at the wrists. Deep Banker’s Grey flannel prom ises to become greatest in suit pre ference. With mixture and colorful ly checked tweeds following closely behind. Still at the fashion helm are sheen gabardines, new to see in the tawny color range and over-all fash ion popular wine tones. Keep Jewelry Safe At Hand Jewel accessories this Fall stress “real ice”, pearl accent, and “tools’’ as bracelet dangles. Unusual semi-precious stores, close to their natural forms, make strik ing modernistic pins to be mounted on your tweed suit. The white blouse of a grey gabardine suit can wear a choker of flint colored irregular shaped beads punched with gold nug- gets. Pearls are in, but not as you have ; known them. They are green, am ber, purple, packed tight as twisted caviar-beaded chokers, woven into deep lacy bibs, or worked into ropes I of patty shaped beads. Pearls mix ; with rockcandy crystal stones, gold 'leaves, and velvet ribbons for party i life. « The campus’ pet chunky link brace let comes with complete smoking un lit: charm-sized lighter and collap sible holder. Both dangles detach easily. For classroom clock-watchers there’s a tiny watch concealed under the lid of a dangle. Earrings are tiny gold drops for day and the “works” for the even ing. Rhinestone fringes and peal threads just clear the shoulder. Real ly unique is the graceful rhinustone scroll that circles the rim of the ear to end in a rhinestone “headlight” at the lobe. The transparent top and blades of the box are molded of sturdy sty- rene plastic, as is the base. Each blade holds four to six sets of earrings, and removal of either blade by bend ing it upwards at the middle per mits storage of additional jewelry in the base. The box is available in flecked rosepink, silver-blue and in solid colors. Jewelry With Each Ensemble Keep your jewelry orderly, visible, and easily accessible in one of the new jewelry boxes with specially provided earring glades.
