Pape Two THE CLINTON CHRONICLE Thursday, October 12. 1950 f State Fair To Be October 16-21 Columbia, Oct. 10—The eighty- lirst annual South Carolina State Fair opens here October 16 with six days and nights of entertainment scheduled for the 100,000 or more expected to attend before the final gates close October 21. • It’s going to be a beautiful fair," Secretary Paul V. Moore said. He has been working steadily on it since thp gates closed on the 1049 fair. ‘ The grounds are spic and span, the buildings have been refurnished and when the many, beautiful exhibits get in place you won’t find a prettier fair anywhere,” Mr. Moore added. He especially proud of the flower payment of the 10 cents tax; Thurs day will be College and Football day with the Carolina-Clem son football game as the stellar attraction; Fri day will be “School Day” and Sat urday will be Thrill day when dare devil automobile drivers will per form before the grandstand. BRIDE-ELECT PERSONAL MENTION is show this year which has been given for a a double allotment of space greatlv expanded program. Five special days will be observed this year at the fair Tuesday, Octo ber 17 will be PFA-JHA day when nil FFA and JHA members will be admitted free on payment of the 10 cents federal tax; Wednesday will be 4-H club day when all 4-H club members will be admitted free on Mrs. David Sadler of Rock Hill, is the guest of Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Cope land. Lt. and Mrs. G. P. Daughtery and children of Raleigh, N. C., were ov ernight guests of Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Rowland during the week enroute to San Antonio, Texas, where the former is stationed with the air corps. Mrs. W. L. Salter of Savannah, Ga., is visiting her son and daughter- in-law, Dr. and Mrs. A. D. Salter. Mr. and Mrs. Allen Pope and chil dren of Atlanta, were also week-end guests of the Salters. The crusade, headed nationally by Gen. Lucius A. Clay, is a movement designed to put freedom on the of fensive and seeks the signatures of ten million American citizens on Freedom Sscrolls. Justin A Bridges, Laurens attor ney. is county chairman for the cru sade. The county's quota has been set at 1691 scignatures and $218 in con tributions. Enrollment stations have been set up in Laurens and elsewhere Free dom Scrolls, each accommodating 50 signatures, are on hand at all enroll- • ment places. In Clinton the American Legion Auxiliary, headed by Mrs Thomas Baldwin, is sponsoring the crusade All who are interested in the move ment are asked to sign the scrolls, and all signers will be given a lapel button carrying an emblem of Use Freedom Bel!.
