C.-Clemson game and all citizens of Clinton are invited to join in with the group. The cars will be police escorted and as many as can are ask | ed to decorate with the PC colors, red and blue. In addition a pep meet will be held Friday night at 6:30 in the ampithea- tre at which time Coach Sid Varney will speak. Posters will be available to put on all cars. Piedmont Fair At Spartanburg October 9-14 Three, among many special events, will interest the thousands of young people going to the 5th annual Pied mont Interstate Fair at Spartanburg, Oct. 9-14, from Laurens county, The Chronicle has been informed by Fair President Paul Black. They are: 1. The livestock fitting and show ing contest. The Piedmont Interstate Fair will award one trip to the Na tional livestock show in Chicago or to the American Royal show in Kan sas City to the boy or girl from the 4-H or Future Farmer groups of the following counties: Spartanburg, Laurens, Union, Cherokee, Ruther ford and Polk. The association is also giving 3 trips at large for any other counties that care to compete. These 9 winners will compete for the grand championship—the prize to be an nounced later. Minimum unit, total 5 animals, including both FFA or 4-H members from each county; J these must be entered in the Junior 1 Dairy show at the fair. Qualifica-j tions: (1) Boy or girl in each county placing first in the fitting and show- ‘ ing contest among their group; (2/ The organization having the major-! ity of winners will select a leader, to accompany the winners on the trip. In case of a tie, the livestock committee of the fair will name the leader; (3) 1940 winners are not eligible to compete for the 1950 trip. 2. The Piedmont Spelling Con test. In cooperation with the Pied mont Interstate Fair association, rad io stations WORD and WDXY are staging a contest to determine the best speller in the 6-county area rep resented by the Piedmont Interstate fair. Those counties are Spartanburg, Rutherford, Polk, Laurens, Union, and Cherokee. Elimination contests Will be held in the various schools. The champion speller in the 6-coun ties will receive an all-expense paid trip to Washington, D. C., with a chaperone. Prizes will also be award ed to the county winners. 3. School Days: Tuesday, October 10th, is School Day for all schools of Spartanburg county, and Chero kee, Laurens, Union, Polk and Ruth erford counties, both city and coun ty. No tickets will be required on this day for school children. Wednesday, Oct. 11th, is School Day for colored children of Spartanburg county and any adjoining counties who come No tickets required. Friday, Oct. 13, is School Day for the city of Spar tanburg. No tickets will be given out. All children of school age will be admitted FREE on their several days.
