Hollingsworth-Adair
Announcement
James T. Hollingsworth of Cross
Hill announces the engagement of
his daughter, Gladys, to John Lloyd
Adair, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. J. L.
Adair of Clinton. The wedding will
take place September 30 at the Lib
erty Springs Presbyterian church.
Dessert Bridge —^
Given For Club
On Thursday afternoon Mrs. D.
O. Rhame was hostess for a dessert
bridge, guests being members of her
card club.
Two tables were prettily appoint
ed for refreshments in a setting of
summer flowers, roses predominat
ing. After a sweet course several
progressions were made with Mrs.
J. B. Hart and Mrs. Thornwell Dun
lap winning prizes.
Little Boy Has
Birthday Celebration
To honor her son, William Wilson,
Mrs. Lowry M. Wilson invited about
25 of his little playmates on Mon
day for a party, the occasion being
his 7th birthday.
" After a period of games refresh
ments were served in the dining
p room where the birthday cake
adorned the table. Cake decorations
and other party appointments were
carried out in a yellow and blue
motif. The cake was cut and served
with ice cream and punoh. Each
guest was remembered with a party
favor. .
A. R. P. Group Has
Temperance Program
The September meeting of the
Woman’s Missionary Society of the
Associate Reformed Presbyterian
church was held Monday afternoon
at the church.
A program on Temperance was led
by Mrs. Irene Todd with others giv
ing articles from the Journal of
Missions. Mrs. R. L. Plaxico gave
" the devotional study from “Great
Prayers of The Bible." Later several
members gave reports of the con
ference which they attended at Bon
darken, N. C.
Bridge Luncheon
Fetes Miss Wysor
Among social functions compli
menting Miss Elizabeth Wysor,
bride-elect of John B. Jordan, was
the bridge luncheon given on Friday
by Mrs. Caldwell Henderson.
A lovely setting for the mid-day
affair was furnished by artistic ar
rangements of early fall flowers in
bright hues. Three tables were in
play during the morning with six
additional luncheon guests invited
after cards. Top honors went to
Mrs. Michael Turner.
Miss Wysor was presented a cor
sage and a gift of silver. Miss Myra
Adair, October bride-elect, was re
membered with crystal in her chosen
pattern.

Mrs. Vance Is
Bridge Club Hostess
Mrs. Robert M. Vance entertained
members of her bridge club and sev
eral additional guests on Thursday
afternoon assembling players for
three tables.
Before the games punch and pie
a la mode were served. Three pro
gressions were made with score
awards going to Mrs. Hugh Jacobs
and Mrs. W. G.'King, Jr. Floating
prize was won by Mrs. Bill Shields.
For the occasion dahlias adorned
the living room and zinnias and
gladioli were used in the den.
Tuesday Club
Has Meeting
The Tuesday bridge club met this
week at the home of Mrs. Irby S.
Hipp for a number of afternoon
games.
Two tables were arranged for
cards in a setting of colorful garden
flowers.
High and second score awards
were presented Mrs. H. L. Eichel-
berger, a club visitor, and Mrs. P.
S. Bailey.
Lutheran Women
In Regular Session
The regular' monthly meeting of
the Woman’s Missionary Society of
St. Johns Lutheran church was held
on Monday evening at the home of
Mrs. Tom Sease.
The program on “Overtures of
Stewardship” was rendered by Mrs.
Billy Johnson assisted by Mrs. James
C. Dickert, Mrs. E. E. Smith, and
Mrs. Ratchford Boland. A short bus
iness session followed.
During the social hour refresh
ments were served by the hostess.
