Not essential, of course, out very
interesting and lovely, is the witch-
hazel (Hamamelis), a small tree (10
feet) with flowers in late winter
when nothing else is yet in bloom.
There are several varieties, some
more hardy than others, so consult
your local nurseryman for the' one
suited to your region. It is a coarse
j little tree, therefore best among
i evergreens at a distance, but its yel
low flowers are a wonderful surprise
January to March.
