Miss Heatherly
Given Kitchen Shower
In honor of Miss Doris Heatherly,
bride-elect of August, a kitchen
shower was given at the home of
Mrs. Furman Buchanan on Saturday
evening.
Games and contests were enjoyed
during the evening.
The living room was decorated
with lovely arrangements of gladioli.
A salad course with sandwiches,
cake and punch was served by the
hostess, assisted by Mrs. Frank
Simpson and Mrs. Robert Cox.
Many useful gifts were presented
the honor guest, in addition to a cor
sage of pink carnations.
Mrs. Owens Is
Bridge Hostess
Mrs. William Bailey Owens enter
tained her bridge club and a num
ber of additional guests on Thurs
day morning.
Three tables were arranged for the
games in a colorful setting of zin
nias, gladioli and dahlias.
Mrs. Henry C. Britt a visitor, won
top score honor. Mrs. Bynum Poe
of Rock Hill, was also a club guest.
At noon luncheon was served.

Honor Visitor
Complimenting Mrs. Henry C.
Britt, who is visiting her sister-in-
law, Mrs. W. R. Anderson, a num
ber of informal gatherings have been
given. • ,
On Saturday morning, Mrs. An
derson invited a few neighbors to
meet Mrs. Britt.
Mrs. H. L. Eichelberger was hos
tess on Tuesday afternoon for a
coca cola party honoring the visitor.
Lt. Col. Britt who is being trans
ferred from Fort Lewis, Wash, to
Fort Bragg, N. C. also spent the
week-end here. The Britts have
two children, Sally and Peter.
Lutheran Society
In July Meeting
The July meeting oi the Woman’s
Missionary Society of St. John’s Lu
theran church was held on Monday
evening the 3rd at the home of Mrs.
W. M. Perdue, Sx.
Mrs. James C. Dickert rendered
the program on "Migrants—A Crit
ical Problem”, closing with prayer.
Later a social hour was enjoyed
and the hostess served a refreshment
course.
Compliment Paid

A charming compliment was paid
Miss Jean Copeland, bride-elect, Fri-

Later in the evening the bride-
elect was given a shower of miscel
laneous gifts which were opened and
passed.
Guests for the occasion included
fifteen of Miss Copeland’s friends,
with Miss Lucy Eady of Florence an
out-of-town visitor.
Lovely Party Given
For Bride-Elect
A lovely party was given by Mrs.
David Word and Miss Marie Weir at
the home of the former Friday eve
ning honoring Miss Doris Heatherly
who will be married August 5 to
Guy A. Tumblin.
Beautiful arrangements of gladioli,
roses and other summer flowers were i
used in the living and dining rooms
and in the den.
Upon arrival Miss Heatherly was
presented a corsage of gardenias.
Each guest was asked to write a wish
for the bride and a favorite recipe,
after which the hostess presented 1
these to the bride-elect in book form.
Dish towels were hemmed and also
presented to the bride-elect.
The guests were invited into the
dining room where a salad course,
sandwiches, punch and cookies were
served buffet style. The prettily
appointed table was laid with a cloth
of white organdy over pink with a
lovely arrangement of pink carna
tions, pink candles and ribbons with
a miniature bride and four brides
maids. The bride-elect was also
given a hope chest gift.
Church Circles
Hold Meeting
The circles of Broad Street Meth
odist church and Woman’s Society
of Christian Service met jointly
Monday afternoon at the church,
with the president, Mrs. Lewis in
charge. The devotional was given
by Mrs. John W. Coleman and an
interesting program on “The New
Nation, Israel”, was given by Mrs.
Edgar Blakely.
