MOSES. WHO LED HIS PEOPLE
TO GOD.
Lesson for July 9: Exodus lt>:16-
25; 35: 4-5, 121.
Memory Selection: Exodus 19:£r-
In the lesson today the reader’s
knowledge of the chief facts of the 1
life of Moses must be taken for
granted. Tlhe lesson text begins
with the giving of the Law on Sin
ai, three months after the Israelites
had crossed the Red Sea. The Ten 1
Commandments were destined to be
the basis of all the jurisprudence of
the world in after ages.
Following the giving of the Law,
Moses built a tabernacle of worship,
a movable sanctuary, adapted to the
needs of a nomadic people. God gave
the pattern of th> sanctuary to Mos
es and the people gladly gave the
materials that were needed.
It was designed that it could be |
quickly taken down and carried on
the march—to be set up again when
a new camp was reached. The tab
ernacle was a^great symbol as well,
35 a practical provision for Wor
ship for a marching host.
It was a aymbol of God’s presence
and an assurance of his might as the
people marched through the years i
toward Canaan.
The free gift of things needed for
the tabernacle brings us a fine ex
ample today, if we would build a
church unto God. As the Israelites
freely consecrated what they had to
the tabernaele, even to their prec
ious possessions, in order to provide
a f>lace of worship, so they who
would now’ build a church must be
of a “spirit willing” to give what
is required for the work.
