County To Receive
$7,459 Gas Tax
For Past Month

Columbia, June 20.—The counties
of South Carolina will'receive a to
tal of $368,047 this moiHh from the
monthly distribution of one cent of
the six cent a gallon state tax on
gasoline, according to State Treasur
er Jeff Bates. Laurens county’s al-
1 lotment for the*month will be $7,459.
The distribution being made 'this
month is on the basis of the gasoline
tax collected during the month of
May. The distribution is based on
the number of motor vehicle licen
ses sold in each county.
The state highway department re
tains five cents *of the six cent a
gallon state tax on gasoline, and the
remaining one cent is distributed
among the counties. With the be
ginning of the 1950-51 fiscal year
next month the state tax on gasoline
will be raisecT to seven cents in ac
cordance with a provision in the
1950-51 general appropriations bill
'passed by the General Assembly.
