Columbia, April 12.—Eighteen
highway accidents occurred in Lau
rens county during the month of,
February, twelve of which took place
on state highways, according to a
! report just issued by the S. C. State i
1 Highway Department.
Five persons were injured and two!
were killed in the Laurens county
accidents. Four of the injuries and'
! both of the deaths were caused by
accidents on state highways. Eight
, of the thirteen accidents which re- :
suited in property damage also oc-
jcurred on state highways.
In South Carolina, a total of 1,025
highway accidents were reported
during the month, 641 of which took
place on state highways. Of the 349
persons injured and 54 killed in the
motor vehicle accidents, 263 injur-'
! ies and 44 deaths resulted from ac
cidents on state highways. The acci
dents causing property damage num
bered 760, of which 445 accurred on
j state highways.

ue of all elementary and high school
property Tor the white schools in
Laurens county comes to SI.720,607,
according to the 1949 report of the
State Superintendent of Education,
which was issued to the current ses
sion of the General Assembly.
The total value of white elemen
tary school property in Laurens coun- J
ty is $589,280. and the total vajue i
of white school property in the coun- I
ty is $293,027 In addition, the value {
of elementary and high school pro
perty when both are operated in
same buildings comes to $838,300.
The grand total of all white elem-
i entary and high school -property in
the state is estimated at $68J31,070.
