Revival Services
Begin March 22 At

A revival meeting at Calvary Bap
tist -church will begin Wednesday
night, March 22. and continue
through Sunday. April 2. Services
will be held each night at 7 o’clock.
The Rev W J’. Jordan, pastor of
the Tabernacle Baptist church at
Pelzer. will be the guest minister for
the series of meetings. The pastor of
the church. Rev. J W. Spillers, ex
tends a cordial invitation to the pub
lic to attend the services.
Laurens, March 15.—A new $120,-
000- health department for Laurens
( county to be erected in the imme-
'diate future has been announced by
the county delegation.
Sen. Ralph T. Wilson and Rep.
C. L. Milam, Robert C. Wasson and
Charlie Culbertson declared yester-
iday {.hat the new health department
will be built with $60,000 that was
. refunded to the county as surplus
from the-'stato appropriations, plus
$60,000 from the federal government.
Representative Wasson stated that
word was received of the govern
ment’s official approval of the proj
ect.
Senator Wilson said that the build
ing will be erected on the corner of
Church street and Beaufort street. He
declared that the site was ample for
future expansion with plenty of fa
cilities for parkings
Senator Wilson said, “We are ready
to have the plans drawn up by an
architect and begin the letting of
b44s.”
Members of the delegation point
ed out that no additional faxes will
be needed as there are sufficient
funds from surplus funds received
from the state to pay for the entire
costs. Representative Milam saidjhat
the -majority of the $60,000 that the
county will pay came from the $58,-
000 that was received recently from
state surplus funds to be used spe
cifically for medical purposes. They

Clinton Man Added
To Deputy Force
Braxton M. Dutton, Jr., until re
cently a deputy in Magistrate Sam
McCrary’s office here, has been add
ed to the list of deputies in the sher-
i iff’s office and has entered upon his
I work, according to an announce
ment by Sheriff C. W. Weir.
Deputy Dutton will do general law
enforcement work and serve particu
larly the local magistrate’s office,
the sheriff said. -

Shows Clinton High
Above Average School
During a recent evaluation pro
gram by a committee representing
the Southern Association of Second-
iary Schools, ^nd Colleges, Clinton
thigh school received a very good
rating. ^
This visiting committee, which was
composed of H. O. Strohecker, Regis
trar at the University of South Caro
lina; B. S. Pinson, principal of
Thornwell Orphanage schools; E. C.
Simpson, principal of Orangeburg
high school; M. T. Anderson, princi
pal of Greenville city schools, and J.
V. Kneece, principal of Newberry
high school, came to Clinton high
school on Monday, March 6, and re
mained through Wednesday, March
8. > *
During these three days, members
of the committee met with the high
school faculty) visited all of the
classes, and spent much time in
checking the activities of the school
according to evaluative criteria,
which is used for the evaluation of
all high schools^ throughout the
United States.
The various fields whereby the
school is evaluated are: The school's
Philosophy of Education, Curriculum
and Course of Study, Pupil Activi
ties, the Library, Guidance, Instruc
tions, Outcome of the Educational
Program, School Staff, School Plant,
and the School Administration.
We are very proud of the report
given Clinton high school by the
committe, Supt. W. R. Anderson,
said. Since the school ,is a member
of the Southern Association of Sec
ondary Schools and Colleges, we
were delighted to have this study
reveal some very significant facts in
relation to our school and^the other
' schools of the e.even Southern
states. The committee was most
complimentary of “ail -school activi
ties and after careful study the re- ’
port-s-hows-that Clinton high ranks
well above the average school of
comparable size of these eleven
Southern states.' The states that
comprise the Southern Association
are: A.abama, Georgia, Florida, Ken
tucky. Loui.'iana.^, Mississippi, North
Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee,
Texas, and Virginia,
