Everything was played in a re verse form with the usual teamman Paul Nye racking up twenty points | and the high scoring - ace, Willy Groninger fireing in only nine tal lies. The Presbyterian Blue Hose held a one point lead over the Wofford- ians with a little over two minutes left to play ” in the fracas. Skinny Powel, Wofford’s big gun, burst the PC bubble by dropping in two free throws from the charity line to put his team ahead By ESi one point margin which eventually meant the game for the boys from Spartan burg. The Terriers put a tight defense on Presbyterian high Hying big tal ly man, Willy Groninger ancT" the boy from the local school just could n't find the necessary breaks which are needed to fire in the big totals. 1 Paul Nye was the only man who could break through the tight de-j fense.and he made the best of it in' making his twenty tallies. Groninger Makes All State Willy Groninger, Presbyterian lor- ward, made the All State collegiate basketball team for the second year in as many chances. Dwight “Willy” “Easy” Groninger got off to a slow start this year and didn’t really hit his stride until about one full quarter of the hardwood season had dwindled in to the re- memberence of the fans and the! players. Once Dwight finally hit his stride there was no stopping him and hei began to look like the dead eye Gron inger of last year as he racked up points in the twenties for a number! of games. Groninger is a sophomore and has two mbre years of eligibility so! there should be some good things! coming from the Presbyterian cam pus for the next couple of years. Cavaliers Sign Livingston The Clinton Cavaliers began as suring themselves of a pretty suc cessful season as they began gala- 4 vanting around and signed some of the most wanted players in the tex-j tile leagues. The biggest ’“find” in| the Central Carolina league was the signing of former big league catch er, Mickey Livingston, who put his John Henry on a Clinton Cavalier contract. Livingston, who hails from New berry, originally,, lacked two months to the day being a ten year major league perforwner. This year the club which owned him wanted to send the big man to St. Paul, a Tripple A class club but Livingston refused to go. He figured it wasn’t worth the trouble and everyone thought he was on the short end of a rotten deal j any way. When Livingston announ ced that he wasn’t going back to the major league club but he might con sider playing some' textile baseball, the local Central Carolina league clubs and others wore a six foot path by running to his doo^ with -the best offers they could possibly offer, heedless to say the Clinton! won out and it isn’t because LJvingston “feels some strange at tachment to the fair city”. One of the things which might have in duced the famous catcher to come to this team is the manager of the '49 Cavaliers, Claude Crocker. Crock er seems to have a way of getting good ball players—or maybe he just has a big check book. Another coveted player w r hich will be- in the Clinton fold is Rowe w r ho lead the South Atlantic league in hitting last year as he pounded the ball for the Macon Peaches. This was probably also some more of the handy work of that man called Claude. Crocker said that he was still on the outlook for a good right handed pitcher. He has his eye on two boys but nothing definite has come of thej bickering so far. Homilton Elected Director of Diamond Council of America 1 J. W.
