J. Hart of Laurens,” says 41 r. V. L. Wilburn, of Joanna, S. C. “After all other methods fail, Chiropractic often restores people to health as it did in my case.” “For years I had suffered from a nervous condition and was gradually getting worse. I was unable to sleep at night except under the influence of sleeping tablets. Every day I suffered from awful headaches and was forced to seekrelief from the pain bv use-of-strong drugs. Back when most counties in the 1 : state counted their 4-H club mem- i.bers by the tens. Pickens county was counting their by the hundreds. For many years, the veteran coun ty agent, Tom Brown, now retired, did a major job of 4-H club work., And the result of that have long shown in the leadership that Pick-j ens county sent oyer the state. You see' it everywhere you go in agricul- • tural circles' over the state. During the time I was ctfUnty agent in Sum ter, we employed four different as sistant agents. We just went out to get the best ones we could. And three !of them came from Pickens. And the ( other one was a product from these, ; a Sumter county boy, who had his ^-H experience under those three Pickens boys. In the late years most of the coun ties in the state have grown with 4- j-j j H until now they too number mem- bers in the hundreds, about fifty thousand in all in,, the state. j £: In Pickens they are still carrying^ ?-*;on with fine 4-H program. The pasf £,»year they enrolled 313 boys. Of these $ 276 completed their year’s demon strations and turned in records. A dairy calf club is on§ of Pick-, ens’ latest 4-H undertakings. They 1 now have 34 fine Jersey heifers and 2 Guernseys out with their young sters. County Agent Wood says they don’t have much dairying in the ; county, but feel that some of these boys will grow into it with their 4- H heifers as a start. Plan For It You can do everything you know : to make a crop, and if you don’t get the water at the right time you will | not make much. We have experienced that so many I times; But now, with the new types of sprinkler irrigation, we can remove I'the hazard of drought from many of ! | our fields that are near streams and ponds. And when that is done, good ( yields are just about assured, tl But to get the TuIT benefit frbm : this added water, we need to do all we can there to make big yields pos sible . And that calls for good prepara- : tion, liberal fertilization, good seed, j' and more stalks on the land. For it js[ takes-all of these things to make a % big yield possible.. Ti^en, with the added water when needed, you then clinch the yield. Clemson’s Circular 327, “Irrigation | in South Carolina” is free at yourj county agent’s office. , j Found In The Ground While County Agent Kinard of Jasper was examining a new drain age canal a farmer had cut through | some of his lowelands, he noticed what appeared to be bones showing where the clay had washed a bit from the bottom of the canal. He dug some of them out and sent them to Dr. Stephen Tabor at the Univer- jsity. ,He identified tl\em as fossils of the long-extinct Zeugledon, the ancestor of the whale. The back- ! bones were in line there under eight feet of soil, apparently where the animal had died eons ago. j The 10 farmers in the state corn .contest from Jasper made from 79.5 to 124.5 bushels per acre. All togeth- ;er, they averaged 96.02! Gracious, where will this thing I stop! We used to think the fellow who said he made a hundred bushels of i ■ FRIDAY-SATURDAY Rearview Car Mirrer Constipation bothered me and it was necessary to take laxatives several times each week. I w$s weak, nervous and felt bad all the time. I was easily upset and the least little thing worried me. * “After hearing about Chiropractic, I decided to con sult Dr. C. J. Hart of Laurens, S. C. He advised me that Chiropractic adjustments would improve my health. “Dr. Hart checked my spine with an instrument called the Neurocalograph, and advised me that a pres sure upon-Certain-nerves was the cause of my trouble. He made X-Ray .pictures which revealed a misaligned bone of the neck.. When this verterbra was adjusted back to its normal position and the pressure taken off those nerves, 1 was restored to health. “Those awful headaches disappeared, constipation cleared up and I began to feel like a different person. I began to sleep without taking sleeping tablets and woke up every morning feeling refreshed after a good night’s My rit*rvmtyrte?^ improved- and H-bave had no monr trouble since being under chiropractic health care. Dur ing the past year I have returned to Dr. Hart for a checkup and my health is better today than it has been 4'or many years.” Mr. Wilburn’s advice to consult Dr. Hajt may be the first step toward the restoration of your health. Last wegk we got that hog scalded and cleaned, that we kids always | stayed from school to help butcher. T say •help’. We stayed in the way more than anything else. But we looked forward to it, and parents al ways let us miss school that day. The two strongest- men then pick ed the hog up by each catching a foreleg and gripping their other h^nds under the hog’s back. Thus they carried him to the place that he was to be hung. There it took all the rest to help raise him up so the gambling stick that had been insert ed under the tendons near his hind feet could be PUl-diL-.thfLJiOQk,-fliaf^ hung from a limb. There the hog was washed, opened up, and the head cut off. The men then took the carcass and laid it on its back on heavy table. The best axeman in the crowd then split it down the backbone and the meat was cut up. Trimmings were ground for sausage, and the head, | liver, lungs, etc., were put in a pot t with a bag of rice to cook for pud- ! ding. I’ll have to finish next week.
