Levake Cauble, of the navy, sta
tioned at San Diega, Calif., is spend
ing the holidays with his parents,

Mr. and Mrs. C^R. Anderson spent
several days the past week with Mr.
and Mrs. Harold Lawson.
Mrs. Jessie Mills and children
spent the week-end in Ninety Six
with relatives.

Sgt. Claud Bennett, stationed in
Alaska, is spending the holidays with
Mrs. Bennett and other relatives.
Mrs. Essie Crowe of Cross Hill,
visited her sister, Mrs. Hugh Ballard,
Saturday.
Mr. and Mrs. Jess Edmonds had
as their week-end guests Mr. and
Mrs. J.i A. Crowley of Experiment,
Ga.
Mr. and Mrs. Grange Chumbley
and daughter spent Sunday in Lau
rens with Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Chum
bley.
R. S. McLendon of Mt. Vernon,
Ga., is visiting Mr. and Mrs. L. L.
Thomas and other relatives.
Mrs. Floyd Emory and Jeanine,
Miss Frances Fuller and Ches King
visited Mr. and Mrs. Broadus Boyce,
near Clinton, Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Leopard of Laurens,
visited Mrs. Jessie Owens and fam
ily Sunday.
Guests fo Mrs. Annie Lawson over
the week-end were: Mr. and Mrs.
Paul Taylor, Totsie Nix, Watson
Canfield, Dorothy Carothers, Mr. and
Mrs. John Ellis, and Mrs. Carl Shaw,
all of Greenwood.
Methodist Services at Lydia
The Rev. Carroll Gilliam, pastor,
announces regular morning worship
services will be held at the Lydia
Methodist church at 11 o’clock Sun
day. The newJy organized congrega
tion is now worshipping in the au
ditorium of Providence school.
• Sunday school ,the pastor states,
begins at 10 o’clock.
Special efforts are being made by
the congregation to have as many
as possible to attend the Christmas
day services.
Among the Sick
/ Little Harry Wilkes is ill at home.
Friends of Mrs. Ada Prince will be
sorry to know she is ill.
Little Pat Ballard has been sick
the past few days.

celebrated their first wedding anni
versary yesterday, the 21st.
Joe Chalk will be seven years old
December 30.
Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Satterfield
will celebrate their 10th wedding an
niversary tomorrow, the 23rd.
Tuesday, the 20th, was Buck Al
len’s birthday.
Mrs. K. F. Johns’ has a birthday
December 24.
A. M. Shumate celebrated his
birthday Monday, Dec. 19.
Mr. and Mrs. Grange Chumbley
will celebrate their wedding anni
versary the 25th.
December 29 is the birthday of
Mrs. Ada Prince.
Mrs. John Edmonds will have a
birthday December 23.
Arliss Smith celebrated a birthday
Dec. 19. Mr. and Mrs. I Smith also
celebrated their wedding anniversary
on the 19th.

Shower for Miss Greer
On Friday evening the home of
Miss Dewel Satterfield was the scene
of a party honoring Miss Annie Ruth
Greer, bride-elect, with a bridal
shower. The Christmas colors of red
and green were carried out. Appro
priate games were played, after
which refreshments of individual
cakes, potato chips, sandwiches, salt
ed nuts and cokes were served.
Miss Greer received many beau
tiful gifts, which were opened and
passed.
Hostesses were Mrs. Effie Jones,
Miss Annie Mae Crawford and Mjss
Satterfield.
games. Prizes were won by Lessie
Hedspeth. Al Williams, Pat Daven
port and Billy Nelson. Dancing was
enjoyed later in the evening.
The birthday song was sung for
Donaree as the lighted birthday cake
was brought in. The guests were
presented balloons made like tapers,
as souvenirs.
Lime punch, cake, nuts and can- 1
dies were served to the guests.
Club 15 Entertains
“Santa Claus’ Night Club” was the
theme used in the Christmas party
given by Club 16 Saturday night.
The guests were met by hat check
girls and invited into the party room,
where tables were set up night club
fashion. A fringed canopy of red and
green covered the room. An arrange
ment of candles and greenery was,
on the piano. The antique mantel
was beautiful with white candles and
plasta-foam white reindeer.
In the library, the nativity scene, j
with a lighted Christmas tree, was 1
laid on a long table, and in the re
freshment room red and white can- j
dies were used on the table, where,
punch, sandwiches, nuts and candies
were served. ' ' ■
The guests found themselves in a
night club atmosphere, when each
table displayed a menu of fun, the
program of games and entertainment
for the evening. A floor show with
proper lighting, spotlight and musi
cal background was given. Miss
Mary Johnson sang “White Christ
mas” accompanied by Miss Joan
Kuykendall. Miss Margaret Blakely
gave “Kris Kringle” in verse. The
highlight of the evening was a bevy
of chorus girls who danced and sang
of “Christmae woes.” In appropriate
costume for this number were Mrs.
Ella Nance, Miss Mary Johnson, Miss
Dewel Satterfield, Miss Margaret
Blakely and Mrs. Ethel Cauble. Miss,
Kuykendall rendered several mu-,
sical numbers, using popular Christ
mas songs. Santa’s souvenirs were
an array of Christmas gifts for all |
! the guests. These were presented by,
Pat Davenport and Sherry Smith,
dressed as cigarette girls and carry
ing the gifts on cigarette trays. Mrs.
Santa Claus’ special was enjoyed by 1
all as they were invvited into' the
dining room and served buffet style.}
