GIFTS; MOTHER-DAUGHTER STYLES GOOD * This is the month before Christmas, but don’t wait until the day before to start sewing your gifts. Night gowns, lounging pajamas or hostess gowns make wonderful presents, says Marian Corey. Writing in McCalls for November, she also describes some exciting dressy dresses for dates and parties: “A pair of look-alike pinafores for mother and daughter with fly-away shoulders is an inspired gift. They are very pretty in pastel chambray with rows of rick-rack. A pajama ensemble is something for the glam our girl. The coat is twice useful, as it can be worn as a robe with sleep ing pajamas. It’s quilted—quilted crepe can be purchased with the quilting already done for you. “Look-alike night gowns are su per de luxe in crepe, quaint in ba- tise with eyelet. Daughter, especially, will be thrilled to have a gift exactly like her mother’s. A hostess gown in red faille is The Gift Divine. And it isn’t such a big undertaking after all. Few pieces make it, and they 4 go together easily. It will look very gay in its Christmas box, fluffed out with tissue. “There’s lots of flare in the new five-o’clockers and party dresses. “Bigger and better collars are here for date dresses too. Under a coat, you merely fold it, scarfwise. One model with a big collar has a skirt that’s slim but not plain, with dog-ear pockets and lines of buttons. Beauti fully simple, and simply beautiful, is a party dress for juniors or small women. It has scalloped yokes and a wide skirt, and is very easy to make. “Juniors love jersey, and that fab- I ric is right for tailored day-timers. [One model has a widely-flared skirt and the slim fitted bodice that all juniors insist on.
