of Clinton, a prerequisite for the
privilege of operating such au
tomobile, truck, or other motor
vehicle upon the public streets,
highways, roads, or other public
w ays within the Town limits.

BE IT ORDAINED by the Mayor
and Aldermen of the Town of Clin
ton, in council assembled, and by au
thority of the same:
Section 1. That no person, firm or
corporation, nor its or their agents,
officers, or employees, shall operate
any automobile, truck, or other- mo
tor vehicle upon the public streets,
highways, roads, alleys, lanes or oth
er public ways within the corporate
limits of the Town of Clinton, unless
the owner thereof has paid all taxes
due by him. her, or it, to the Town
cf Clinton on his, her, or its personal
property located within the city lim
its, including any tax on such auto
mobile, truck, or other motor vehicle,
for the previous tax year or years;
that is to say, while the owner there
of is delinquent in the payment of
taxes on his, her. or its personal
property, including taxes due on
such automobile, truck, or other mo
tor vehicle.
-Section 2. That all persons, firms,
or corporations who own an automo-
bi.e. truck, or other motor vehicle,
upon paying his annual tax on such
vehicles and other personal property
to the Town of Clinton, there shall
be issued to such person, firm, or cor-
peratiton a certificate, or metal plate,
to be attached to such motor vehicle,
showing that such taxes on the per
sonal property of the owner for the
previous year have been paid, or such
other form of evidence of the pay
ment of such personal property tax
as the Mayor or Town Council may
adopt, and the Chief of Police, and
other policemen or peace officers of
the Town shall have the right to stop
any operators of such motor vehicles
and demand proof of the payment of
surh tax on such personal property

to furnish such evidence of the pay
ment of such tax on personal prop
erty for the previous year by the
owner of said car shall subject the
owner, driver or operator thereof to
a flne of not moie than ONE HUN
DRED ($100 00) DOLLARS, or im
prisonment for nX exceeding thirty
(K) days in the Tjwn Jail or on the
public worka of the Town of Clinton.

Dance Festival
The third annual meeting of the
South Carol, na Recreation society
was held in the ballroom of the Jef
ferson hotel in Columbia last Thurs
day. Mrs. Wallace represented the
Clinton area On Thursday night the
convention closed with a presentation
of their first “Folk Dance Festival.”
Some three hundred boys and girls
took part in the dances. Under the
direction of Mrs. Wallace, Miss Mary
Johnson and Claude Crocker, a group
of boys and girls of Lydia Mill en
tered the festival, which was held
in the Township auditorium. The
Lydia folk danced an American folk
dance in.early American costumes.
The dance orchestra, “The Three
Naturals,’’ composed of Dorsey Tur
ner, Wister Todd and Lenear Stone,
a local musical group, who played for
the folk dance, was given much
praise by the^udges.
The following boys and girls com
prised the folk dancers: Wilson
Barnes, Donaree Cauble, Margaret
Smith, Elaine Crocker, Sherry Smith,
Clara Martin. Ruby Thomas, Frances
Mathis, Pat Davenport, Lois Phipps,
Ruby Wardell, Peggie Satterfield,
Sharon O’Shields. Shirley Mathis,
Paul Patterson. Guy McElhannon,
Dale Sellers, Robert Satterfield, Mill
ard Phipps, Jimmy Piercy, Claude
McElhannon, Paul Woods, and Ken
neth Thomason.

Party for Little Girl
Monday morning at 9 o’clock Mrs.
Estes entertained at a children’s par
ty honoring her little daughter, Joyce
Ann, who celebrated her fifth birth
day.
The kindergarten rooms were dec
orated with fall flowers. Alter piay- |
ing several games, and singing “Hap
py Birthday,” Mrs. Estes and Mrs.
Daris Estes served cakes, candy and
fruit punch. Multi-colored balloons
were given as favors. Joyce Ann re
ceived many gifts from the 22 guests.
