1: is amusing to note many of the
dai.y papers deploring the killing ofi
people on the highways and at the
same time carrying enticing liquor j
advertisements in their columns. |
They are contributing to increased
*ales of intoxicants which law en
forcement officers tell us is the main
cause of the mounting deaths on the
highways. The liquor manufacturers
are eager to get their products adver
tised over the radio also. One o,f the
largest distillers says that “the time
is undoubtedly coming when distilled
spirits advertising on the major* ra
dio and television outlets will be ac
cepted as completely for our industry
as advertising in the major maga
zines and in newspapers is today.”
This means they will keep fighting
to create favorable sentiment and put)
their drive across. This already would
have happened had it not been for
prompt and outspoken protests.
Let us hope that the American
kiomes can remain free from pro
grams that come over the air with a
whiskey breath. Broadcasters and
distillers should be made to know in'
unmistakable terms that the public
will fight their determined efforts in
tins direction.
