City To Sponsor
Little League Team,
Will Enter State Meet
The town of Clinton will send a
team of Little League baseball play
ers to Charleston in August to a state
tournament.
All boys in Cl.nton and Joanna
who were born after August 1, 1936,
and want to try out for the team are
asked to meet at Academy Street
school playground each day of the
week except Saturday at 9:30 for
tryouts. Everyone will be given a
chance. No definite team will be
picked until late in July to repre
sent the city in the tournament.
Eighteen players between the ages
of 10-12 years will go to the tour
nament. Their uniforms are being
sponsored by Lydia. Clinton, and
Joanna Mills and also the following
firms: Belk’s, Bank of Clinton, Bald
win Motor Co., J. C. Thomas, Mc
Gee’s Drug Store, Bishop-Walker
Pharmacy, Yarborough Oil Co., Tex
aco Stations and Cooper Motor Co.
Baseballs are being donated by G. A.
Copeland & Son.
Plans are being made to play a
few games ai night at the Clinton
Mill park to let the public see the
Little League in action before going
to Charleston.
Clinton will be the only team in
the Piedmont region to send a team
to the tournament. This all-star team
will be picked from the five Midget
teams now playing in the city: Lydia,
Florida Street, Thornwell, Acade
my and Joanna.
