4 H Club Gives

The State Training school 4-H club
terhievement program was held last
Friday night with the club president,
Rudy Darr. presiding. The progarm
featured a dress revue in which 34
4-H girls participated, exhibits and
displays of clothing achievement,
needlework, food preparation, and
canning. The winners in the club
'will be invited to compete in the
county achievement program to be
held in July.
In the dress revue six girls placed
in the blue ribbon, group: Mildred
Lovett, Grace Darr, Meadow Woot
en. Della MvAbee, Virginia Roberts,
•ind Nannie Lou Fowler.
Winners :n the jimior achievement
contest were: Doris Mathis, 1st place;
Kathern Lanford, 2nd place; and
Irene Stevens, 3rd place. Senior
clothing achievement winners were:
Rijby DhVf. 1st place'; Betty Elrod,
2nd place; Lillie Mae Silvers, 3rd'
place. In the needlework class those
receiving ribbons were: Irene Stev-
cn£, blue: Nannie Lou Fowler, red;
and Frances Fuller, white. Bertha
Cook. Lillie Mae Silvers and Jessie
Ball received ribbons on pajamas
they displayed. Margaret Callahan,
Lu:'z“ie Mae Anderson, and Valtie
Martin received 1st. 2nd and 3rd
places, respectively, for aprons. Mat-
lie Lee Wylie. Margaret Upchurch,
i,nd Bobbie Jean Mathis received rib-
bons for housecoats.
Canning exhibit winners were:
Betty Elrodr'tilue ribbon, and Dor.s
Smith, red ribbon.
In the food preparation • contest,
Fdith Turner and Doris Smith re
vived blue ribbons on their cakes.
Mary Catherine Ellis received a blue
ribbon on breads. Martharee Silvers
placed second.

ject
The 4-H club chorus, directed by
Jo Shay, sang "Song of Peace” and
• A Song of the Open Country."

state girls 4-H club leader from Win-

home demonstration agent from
Long, assistant home demonstration
agent, of Laurens.
Club officers are* Ruby Darr, pres
ident; Edith Turner, vice-president;
Meadow Wooten, secretary, and Bob
by Jean Mathis, music chairman.
Mrs. Beatrice Sloan has served as
local leader of the club for 12 years.
Mr. and Mrs. J ,E. Burkhalter will
celebrate their 22nd wedding anni
versary June 4.
Priscilla Ann Mathis and Mrs. J.
H. Holmes will celebrate their birth-;
days June 8.
J. H. Chesney had a birthday May
9th.

' On Saturday afternoon Mrs. J. G.
Gallman honored her son, Homer,
who was celebrating his 4th birth
day with a party. A large group
of friends were present for the oc
casion. Games and contests were
enjoyed. Later in the evening Mrs.
Gallman invited the guests into the
dining room wwhere refreshments
were served.
Each guest remembered Homer
with a gift.
Out of town guests were Doris and
Klitabeth Lancaster of Union.

Mrs. James Pitts presented her
piano pupils in recital at the com
munity house on Saturday evening.
At vantage points in the spacious
club rooms were bouquets of Queen
Anne’s lace and daisies. During the
evening punch and wafers were
served.
