I Laurens County Gets
$347,000 Welfare
Funds In Nine Months <
Special to The Chronicle.
Columbia, May 4. — The total
amount of assistance given in Lau
rens county during the first nine
months of the present fiscal year
through the S. C. department of pub
lic welfare came to $347,283, accord
ing to a report made this week for
the month of March. During the fis
cal year to date, $2B6,862 has been
expended in Laurens county for old
age assistance, $5,762 for aid to the
blind, $39,823 for aid to dependent
children, and $14,836 for general as
sistance.
In South Carolina, a total of $9,-
865,401. was expended during the
nine month period on assistance, of
which $1,250,020 was expended last
month.

ville. is to be presented in concert
Monday night, May 9, at 8:30 at the
Presbyterian college auditorium.
Miss Ligon’s presentation is under
the sponsorship of the Clinton Music
club and Presbyterian college, it was
announced yesterday by Miss Norma
Hallett, president 'of the club.
Miss Ligon, who appeared in con
cert here last year, is a graduate of
Furman University and Juilliard
Sthool of Music. Winner of state
and southeastern auditions under the
auspices of the Women's Federation
of Music clubs and rated among the
top four contestant^ in national audi
tions held this year in Dallas, Tex
as, she has appeared in numerous
performances in New York City and
in this state. She also holds the
honor of being winner of the Asso-
