Mrs. Hamer Hostess To
Bridge Club Members
Thursday afternoon Mrs. R. P.
Hamer was hostess to her card clubj
for a dessert bridge.
In a 6o!orfuI setting of early
spring flowers two tables were ap
pointed for refreshments and a
sweet course served. After a num
ber of interesting progressions score
awards were presented Mrs. George
R. Blalock and Mrs. James Addi-1
son. Mrs. Ben Moye was a club
guest for the afternoon.
Dianne Roddy
Has Birthday Party
Friday afternoon Dianne Roddy ob-
1 served her seventh birthday with a
party at her home. Ten neighbor
hood playmates were invited for the
occasion and enjoyed a number of
games on the lawn. Later Dianne’s
mother, Mrs. P. L. Roddy, invited
the children for refreshments from
a prettily appointed table, carrying
out a pink and white color note. Ice
cream and cake were served and
each guest was remembered with a
favor.
Mrs. Brockenbrough
Entertains Club
Mrs. George Brockenbrough eh-
tertained members of the Actaean
Book club on Friday afternoon at
1 her home ‘‘Capers Acres” at Kin-
ards.
Tables were arranged for rook in
a pretty setting of early spring flow-
jers. During the afternoon a salad
course, cookies and coffee were
I served.
The meeting opened with the
singing of “In The Glooming” and
Mrs. Ben Workman gave the de
votional. Minutes were read by
Mrs. L. L. Young, secretary, and
roll call was answered with a rainy
day pastime for children. Mrs. Ran
dolph Davis, president, conducted
the business session after which
Miss Susan Hall, county demonstra
tion agent gave a discussion of pic
tures and decorative objects for the
home. Mrs. Hayne Bell Workman
gave the picture study on “Song of
The Lark.”
Mrs. Roy Crawforu and Miss Hall
were in charge of the recreation and
dufing this period the hostess serv
ed delicious refreshments. In con
clusion sunshine gifts were distri
buted.
Plans were made for another
work day at the former Wadsworth
school which is being converted in
to a community house.
Parties Compliment
Mountville Bride-Elect
Miss Jean McKenzie entertained
with a kitchen shower on March 10
at her home on Mid wood Place,
Charlotte, N. C., in honor of Miss
Jane Miller of Mountville and Char
lotte, bride-elect of April. About
eighteen friends of the bride were
present. A salad course with cof
fee and nuts was served.

To Meet Tuesday
The Parent Teachers Association
of the Florida Street school will
meet Tuesday evening April 5, at
7:30.
Miss Marguerite Talbert, cf the
state department of education will
be the guest speaker. Her topic
will be “The School Survey”.

with a linen shower on March 15
at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Mc-
Chard Williams on Willoughby
Drive, Charlotte in honor of Miss
Miller. Refreshments of wedding
bell cookies, bridal slipper ice cream
coffee and nuts were served.
Miss Miller is the daughter of Mr.
and Mrs. Pierce Miller of Mount
ville and was formerly employed
here.

Enjoys Meeting
Mrs. James P. Sloan was hostess
! to members of her bridge club on
(Thursday afternoon assembling
players for two tables.
* In the living room white iris and
flowering quince* were artistically
arranged while daffodils and green
ery decorated the dining room. A
dessert course was served after
which several progressions were
! enjoyed. Score prizes w’ere won by
(Mrs. B. C. Preslar and Mrs. Wilmot
Shealy.
Birthday Party
For Dawn Campbell
In celebration of her tenth birth
day Dawn Campbell, daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. Joe Campbell,, was
given a birthday party Monday by
her mother.
A number of school classmates of
the honoree were invited and dur
ing the afternoon the hostess, as
sisted by Mrs. Lawrence Campbell
and Miss Betty Ann Campbell serv
ed refreshments. Terry and Silas
Campbell and Lorraine Patterson, of
West Clinton, were also guests at the
party. .
Mrs. C. R. Workman
Club Hostess
On Thursday evening Mrs.
Charles R. Workman and Mrs. W.
B. Tribble delightfully entertained
the “Odds and Ends” book club at
supper at the Workman home near
here. *
Covers were laid for twelve at the
banquet table and a hot supper was
served. Adorning the table was a
central bouquet of mixed spring
flowers flanked by lighted tapers.
On the sunporch and elsewhere in
the home peach blossoms were used
with other flowers of the season. Af
ter supper guests were entertained
informally and books were exchang
ed.

Heads Garden Club
The March meeting of the Clinton
Garden club was held Monday af
ternoon in the auditorium of Florida
Street school.
Mayor L. E. Bishop, spoke to the
group briefly about plans for the
clean up campaign to be sponsored
jointly by the city and civic clubs,
tentatively set for the last week in
April or the 1st wuck in May. The
beautification committee of the
garden club is composed of Mrs. C.
E. Galloway, chairman. Mrs. L. Rus
sell Gray and Mrs. John T. Young.
The nominating committee an
nounced the following officers for
the coming year:
President, Mrs. Marshall W.
Brown.
Vice-president, Mrs. William P.
Jacobs.
Secretary, Mrs. Edward F< rguson.
Treasurer, Mrs. Lewis Pitts.
The following announcements
were made by the president, Mrs.
Henderson Pitts:
State convention in Spartanburg,
April 8 and 9th.
Plant exchange would be held in
April.
Garden club tour probably be
held last week in April, definite
date to be announced later. Anyone
having gardens they wish visited
call Mrs. Frank Miller.
Four garden club tours will be
held in the state, Columbia, Cher-
aw, Georgetown, and Charleston,
proceeds to go to the restoration of
the Manigault home in Charleston.
Club voted to donate $10 to the
Cancer fund.
At the conclusion of the business
session, Mrs. James P. Sloan intro
duced the guest speaker, Mrs. A. D.
Abercrombie of Greenwood, state
bird chairman. Mrs. Abercrombie
spuke on “Our Feathered Friends of
The Gardens.”
Late in the afternoon the group
were invited into the school dining
room for a social hour arid tea and
cookies w’ere served. The Garden
ia group, Mrs. R. P. Wilder, chair
man and the Iris group. Mrs. Frank
Miller, acting chairman, we;e hos
tesses.
A. R. P. Class Meets
With Mrs. Todd
About twenty members of the
Ladies Bible class of the Associate
Reformed Presbyterian church met
on Monday evening at the home of
Mrs. Sloan Todd.
Miss Margaret Blakely gave the
j study for the evening from the book
i “The Life and Teachings of Jesus”.
I At the conclusion of the program
I a social hour was enjoyed and the
i hostess and assistant hostess, Miss
l Kitty Thompson, served sandwich-
i es. cake and tea. For decoration,
! arrangements of gladioli w’ere used
in the living room and flowering
quince in the dining room.

Wadsworth Home Demonstration
club.
Mary Kent Wysor
To Present Recital
Miss Mary Kent Wysor, daughter
of Colonel and Mrs. Robert Wysor,
of this city, and Miss Phyliss Col-
linge of Rock Hill, junior music ma
jors at Winthrop college, will be pre
sented in a joint voice and piano re
cital Wednesday, April 6, at 4 p.m.,
in the conservatory auditorium.
Miss Wysor will sing “Have You
Seen But a Whyte Lillie Grow”
(Anonymous). “Thou Tun’st This
World” (Purcell), “Stay Thou Near
By” (Bach), “If Guiltless Blood Be
Your Intent,” from “Suzanna”
(Handel), and “Love Has Eyes”
(Bishop).
She will also sing “Romance”
(Debussy), “Bonjour, Suzon, Bon-
jour!” (Delibes), “D'Anne qui me
jecta de la neige” (Ravel)’, and
"Adieu, . Forets,” from “Jeanne
D'Arc” (Tschaikowsky).
Miss Elizabeth Byrd will accom
pany the vocalist.
