The Central Carolina Textile base
ball league, with only four of the
original eight member teartis par
ticipating in this season’s play, will
begin its 54-game schedule on April
19, it is announced by Dr. R. H. Park
of Greenwood, the president.
Ware Shoals, Watts Mills, River-
dale and Clinton Mills make, up the
four-club circuit. r
Opening games will find Watts at
Riverdale and Ware Shoals at Clin
ton.
Efforts to attract other teams into
the league to make up for the loss of
Mathews, NinetySix, Greenwood and
Joanna failed and the four remain
ing teams will play a split season.
The first half ends June 18, while
the second half will wind up August
20 and be followed by piayoofs.
‘ The league was formed this year
with an eight-team roster for the
first time since pre-war days. Re
cently Matthews, Greenwood, Ninety-
Six and Joanna resigned, giving as
their reason the increasing tendency
toward professionalism in the league,
and formed their own organization,
called the King Cotton league. Bill
Wash of Greenwood, is president of
the latter.

The County Board of Commission
ers of Laurens County offers for
sale coupon bonds of said County in
the sum of Three Hundred and Sixty
thousand ($360,000.00) Dollars, to be
dated April 1, 1949, and to be pay
able serially within twenty (20)
years from date, and will mature
Eighteen Thousand ($18,000.00) Dol
lars, per annum, from April 1, 1950,
to April 1, 1960 inclusive. The in
terest will not exceed three per cen
tum per annum and bidders are re
quested to bid on the lowest rate- of
interest. No bids of less -than par
and accumulated interest will be
considered. The best bid will be de
termined by deducting from the to
tal interest to be paid under the bid
the amount of the premium of'ered.
The interest will be payable semi
annually on October 1, and April 1 of
each year to maturity. The bonds

Standard time in the faternoon of the
4lh day of April, 1949, and will be
opened at that time. The bids should

ed "Bid on Laurens County Road
Improvement Bond.” Bidders are re
quired to deposit with their bid cash,
or certified check on some respon
sible Banking Institution in the sum
of Ten Thousand ($10,000.00) Dol
lars, payable to the County Treasur
er of Laurens County, the proceeds
of the deposit made by the successful
bidder to be retained as liquidated
damages in the event of failure to
comply with the terms of the bid,
otherwise to be paid on the purchase
price. The deposits of all unsuccess-
'ul bidders will be returned to them,
or their order. And unlimited ad-
volerum tax on the taxable property
in Laurens County is provided for
payment of bonds.
