Hamilton's Modernized
Jewelry Store To
Have Opening Friday
Hamilton's announce the formal
opening of their beautiful and mo-1
dermzed store for Friday, January
28, for which preparation has been
under way several weeks and their
slocks greatly enlarged for the event.
Free prizes will be given' away
Friday, the announcement states, and
special souvenirs for ladies and men.
Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Hamilton
opened their first jewelry store in j
Columbia in 1927 on Taylor street.
In 1936 the store was moved to its
present location on Main street and!
a program of expansion undertaken
with the opening of a store in Sum- j
ter in the early fall. Next year an-'
other store was opened in Darling
ton, followed by qihers in Spartan
burg, Greenville and Newberry.
The Clinton store was opened in
August 1940. and since 1943 has been
headed by B. C. Preslar as manager.
The management states that for the
past eight and a half years their
store has received a liberal patron
age from the residents of this com-
'munity and with modern and larger
facilities is now better prepared to
serve the public than ever before.
Both Mr. and Mrs. Hamilton are!
native South Carolinians, Mrs. Ham-'
ilton having been born in Columjai^
and Mr. Hamilton) is a native of this
county. The organization, which has
been built by the efforts of the own
ers, is truly a local organization com
posed of South Carolinians and hav
ing no affiliations with any other
organization, Mr. Hamilton stated.
A page announcement on their
formal opening Friday appears in
today's paper.
Crowds Visit
Giles Showroom To
See New Chevrolets
^Hundreds of persons visited the!
showrooms of the Giles Chevrolet 1
company Saturday to view the new!
Chevrolet models. It was the most 1
wonderful reception of a new model
we have ever had, Mr. Gile's stated, 1
the jam being so great at times that;
one had to peep over the shoulders
of the crowd to get a glimpse.
Offered are special and deluxe
models in the Fleetline and Styleline;
groups. Although there are some
minor changes in the motor and in
steering, brakes k gearshift and trans-
missioQ, among others, the principal
thing noticeable is the marked im
provement in body styling. In ap
pearance the'T949 models are as dif-
terent from the 1948 as the girl of
today is from the short skirted lass
of 1946, Mr. Giles said.
“There’s never been a Chevrolet
like this, says the General Motors
announcement of the new car. “Nev
er a Chevrolet so smartly styled, so
luxirous, so advanced in comfort,
safety, and performance with econo
my.”
The new models were unveiled
simultaneously Saturday throughout
the United States. One of the mod
els is now on display by local dealers.
